Could it be that there is a noisy CFL in the socket rocket?

would explain things, and point back to Dave W's initial assessment.

When we think noise... normally everyone thinks CFLs. But LEDs can certainly be a noise problem as well.

As the magic smoke escapes the electronics driving the LED's at an almost imperceivable level, they may become noisy.  This may be the problem.  Try it for a day with a night light plugged in instead of the LED strip and report back.

Heck, I've noticed that as things age they all begin to leak -- the faucet, my oil pan, me, etc., etc.

I have noise on my powerline! I'd bet a pickle most users do. But you can run a little noise for a long time with no problem... then add just a little bit more....

If the Socket Rocket has a CFL in it as Knightrider suggested. Try a standard bulb or a different CFL. I have seen CFLs as they age make noise that originally was no problem. I have also seen some model CFLs make all kinds of noise in a Socket Rocket. While most are fine as reported here by many.
