Strange problem with SW10 modules
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:40:12 PM »

I am using 2 Marmitek SW10 modules in a home cinema setup. 1 module is wired to a motorized screen, the other is wired to a motorized projector lift. I use a Marmitek IR-RF7243U controller to send the X10 signals, with both modules on the same address. This setup has been working fine for the last 2 years, then last week both the projector and screen started going up and down by themselves. I unplugged the rf7243, thinking maybe that had developed a fault and tried different addresses on the rf7243 and the sw10s. I tried isolating both SW10s from the mains, but when I switched them back to the mains again, there would be a pause of 5 minutes or so and then the screen and projector would start bobbing up and down again. If I reconnect the rf7243 it appears to work fine, in that the LED shows activity when I press a switch, but it doesn't control the SW10s. I can still control the SW10s using the switch on the module but after a few minutes the projector and screen start acting spontaneously again. Both the projector and screen seem to be fine if I use the switch on the SW10 to lower them, then they stay down, but if they are raised they start going up and down again. Odd.

I can't quite work out what is going on here. Nothing has changed in the system and they have been working well for the past 2 years. Seems unlikely they would both fail on the same day and in the same way. I have checked the wiring and it seems good. Anyone got any thoughts or come across anything like this before.
