Needed Upgrade to the Palm Pad Remote Control HR12A
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:50:41 PM »

Good day;

I use my Palm Pad Remote Control HR12A to control devices on different codes.

I would like to see a new turnable code setter that doesn't need a screwdriver. Perhaps an pin dial that can be used by turning with your fingers would be more useful?.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

They make a snap in knob for the dials. I have been told they don't fit the HR12A because of the thick plastic over the label area that also is around the house code dial.

After removing the clear plastic, I noticed the lock clips are just under the black line under the number 8. I was thinking of cutting the clear plastic on that line, but if I do, the clear plastic will not lock in place properly.

I could make the hole in the clear plastic a bit bigger then the 3/8 diameter of the dial link you sent me, or X10 could simply modify the dial in new production.

Thank you for sending me the links. I'm going to purchase them for other X10 products I have. You have been a great help

Cheers!

You are welcome.
There where X10 compatible modules with finger knobs. The Black and Decker Freewire modules; made by X10. Had finger gripping knobs on the House and Unit Code wheels.

Wow the shipping at smarthouse.com is crazy. They want $8  :o to ship a $3.40 item. I think $8 is a little high to ship such a small item across the country.  Just my $0.02.

You may want to to a Google search. Maybe X10 Clickers or a few variations. I know other automation vendors sell them. I just knew Smarthome has them.
Yes the shipping can get high from them.

I did it the easy way, I only control a few lights on a few house codes so I just made macros that trigger switches and appliance modules on other codes.  I found an article that mentioned making macros and using the palmpad. It's pretty easy. I don't use all the unit codes for a select house code anyway.  No need to switch back and forth.

Simple fix if you don't have a lot of devices you want to control from the palm pad.  >!

Dave_x10_L  had posted a comment here about using steven r's Redirect Commands.  http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=19217.0 and it just triggered my imagination.
