SoftStart - starts by itself
« on: May 14, 2010, 07:21:05 PM »

Our lights and such has flickered a few times today... I think the power company is doing some limb removal.

I only have one of the softstart lamp modules. And earlier today... I noticed it was on. I couldn't remember turning it on... but I knew I could have.. so I paid it no attention. After my wife and I made a shopping trip out today. When we returned home the same light was on again. Just a minute ago.. the lights flickered again... and my softstart lamp came on.

Has anyone else seen this?

Yep, I have seen it with some of the old style dimming wall switches as well. I'm fairly certain it's due to a slight draw that trips the switch to it's last state. In my case, I'm sure some of the wiring is backwards, this is due to age of the house and the initial wires in it, all black single wire runs in the walls. No neutral or ground at most of the switches either.

I have not seen the exact thing but have two that are slightly strange.
Date Code: 09J44 When power is first applied the bulb flashes on for an instant. I believe this was also the one with the half bright flaky Triac that I replaced with one from a older lamp module. The other two of the three I got; also randomly flash the load when powered up.
Date Code: 08A01 Turns on sometimes when power is applied, but not everytime.

I have noticed over the past twenty years that when the switch modules get older, they show that problem. They must be more sensitive to fluctuations. I usually got better results after I swapped out the unit. I have a feeling that Insteon might be better from what I have read but they cost more too.

At least the power company was out and resolved the "flicker".
