Idea for external siren
« on: July 12, 2010, 12:49:19 AM »

Ok, experts, please tell me if this would work. The new AHP system is now susposed to work with and control the X10 security system.  Mine should be here Wednesday.

Could a macro be written to activate one of the aftermarket 12 volt sirens using this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/X-10-Extra-XM13A-XCam-Addressable-Power-Supply-NEW-X10-/380193980452?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588553c024

It's a 120ac to 12 volt dc power supply normally use for the x10 security cameras.

Please advise.

Thanks!

One concern would be that if it acts like most X10 camera power supplies, it would turn off if it heard an X10 "on" command within a "group of four".

Say it was set to respond to A1.

If a "A2 (or A3 or A4) On" was sent, it would turn off.

Also, it only outputs 80 milli-amps at 12 volts DC.  You would have to be sure the siren doesn't draw more current than that.

One added point.
The 80 ma may not all be available on the switched contact.
Part of the supply is on all the time to power the cameras electronics except the transmitter that is turned on and off.

Maybe a UM506 low voltage switch and an external +12 volt supply for the siren as I also doubt you will find a loud siren that works on such a low current.

I don't think cameras (or the camera power supplys) actually Flash in any way... like does the light modules.

However... paizano1 has come up with an outside mini powerhorn mod that does allow for an add-on outside siren.

Really like to hook up outside siren or something would make it louder. PH508 Home Security PowerHorn Siren - X10 the rewiews from amzon there saying not much better.

The PS561 has no output to trigger a PSC01 which is a controller not a responder.
