CM19a USB RF Reception Issues
« on: August 10, 2010, 05:10:50 PM »

I just purchased ActiveHome and it came with the CM19a usb PC transceiver.  I have a motion sensor and credit card remote that came with it.  If I use the remote inside my house within a very short distance it seems to activate my macros.  If I move just outside, a foo from where the remote was working neither the remote nor the motion sensor work.  I've had the activity monitor running and it doesn't show an activity when the system fails to activate so I'm reasonably sure it may be the reception.  The distances from the remote/motion sensor to the CM19a aren't very far, 20 feet or so.

Any suggestions on how to improve functionality?  I bought the system to use four motion sensors to activate outside lights so they are critical.

Thanks.  Bill

There are several, improving range mods for the CM15A but I have not seen anything for the CM19A. There are "passive repeater", or "passive antenna" etc for the motion sensors, Slim Line Switch, which is essentially a wire or rod cut to 1/2 wave antenna length and attached to the side of the motion sensor or switch. Search the terms"passive radiator" "passive antenna" and "motion sensor range" on the forum.

Have you tried moving the CM19A around with in the limits of the USB Cable?

See if you can prop the black antenna wire in a vertical position.

Make sure the motion sensors are not directly mounted on a metal surface.

I would also say try the passive antenna as it has helped many users.

As mentioned we have not seen antenna mods for the CM19A and with it you would have to watch the way it is done. As it is also the transmitter antenna. Used to send commands to the TM751 in your setup.
