Where'd my Data go?
« on: July 25, 2010, 03:15:45 AM »

So I've been using AHP 3.228 for a few weeks now. Have a few modules setup with timers. All of a sudden tonight all the settings and data were GONE!!! WTF!! Why did this happen? Is there a auto backup file somewhere that I can restore?

Also, is there a way of UNinstalling a plug-in? I installed iWatchOut as X10 gave it to me, but I now have no intention of adding cameras. Not a big deal except for the nag screen that comes up when starting AHP to tell that there are no X10 cameras installed. I then have to select OK to continue. Would love to get rid of this.

Thanks everyone for your continued support as I get my feet (slowly) wet with X10 and AHP!!

There's no auto backup in AHP.   What I do (and every AHP user should) is back up all the .ahx files.  All .ahx files (.ahx is the file suffix AHP uses) are normally found in C:/Program Files/ActiveHome Pro.  Back up all .ahx files except Myhome.ahx and samples.ahx (which come with AHP and have 2004 file dates.   Back up every .ahx file you created to a second hard drive or removable media.

Back up all .ahx files except Myhome.ahx and samples.ahx
Only skip backing up the MyHome.ahx file if you do not use that as your main settings file.  By default ActiveHome Pro uses the MyHome.ahx file to save your modules macros and timers, so some people just use that as their main file.  Many people in here rename that file after it is created or just create their own.  Some people like Dan L. have several .ahx files that they use throughout the year, so all of these files should be backed up.  I usually suggest that if you are starting out and are making a lot of changes to your modules, macros and timers, that you keep a 5 day rolling backup meaning that you keep backup files for 5 days.  When you save a new backup file, delete the one from 5 days ago.  I suggest this so that if you have any changes that you made a few days ago that you want to fall back on, you can.

As for the plug-ins; the only way that I know to get rid of a plug-in is to uninstall ahp and redownload.  Just don't install the plug-in that you don't want.  It seems to me that you just started out so this might be a good time to reinstall without the plug-ins.   :)

Take a look at your ahp_plugin.xml file, which should be in "C:\Program Files\ActiveHome Pro" (or wherever you installed).
There is a line there for each installed plugin.
I disabled a plugin by changing "plugin id" to "noplugin id".

That did it for me. If you have multiple plugins, you might need some trial-and-error to figure out which line is for which plugin.
