Soft-Start Gripes

Soft-Start gripe:  WHY did X10 NOT add a S to the part numbers.  That was 100% STUPID!!!  We have to either use the LM14A to control lights or the AM14A to control Appliance modules or leave the module settings of AHP alone and "wing it"  X10 gets the Giant Goose Egg on this one.  I defy anyone at X10 who posts here to explain why.

Even more confusing.
Somewhere between date code 08A01 and 09J44.
The way the Soft Start modules handle an All Lights On, All Units Off changed.
The earlier ones didn't flash correctly when used with Security Consoles during an alarm.

I suspect it's a "customer be damned" attitude.      If X10 USA really cared, they would have either added a "S" to module numbers for Soft-Start and a "C" for CFL Friendly Appliance Modules and added them to to the module choices in AHP.  Not make us in the user community live with whatever they do.

I wonder.... could someone develop and/or describe a test or tests that would allow someone to quickly and correctly determine which modules they have? That way we a user could identify how to use what they have That would be worth a sticky.

This one is my fault I know but when I first got into x10 I was using it to turn on and off a small audio mixer with a lump in the line xformer. I saw the lamp controller said for incandescent lamps only but paid no attention and used the one I had to turn on and off the mixer. It worked for weeks! Pfft, incandescent lamps only...... What I did not know is that I had a fast starting lamp controller and when I bought 5 more to control 5 more mixers I bought soft starters without my knowledge that they even existed. The mixers worked for one day then all 5 of them fried but the first one with the fast start.

That cost some money for 5 new lump in the line xformers and no there was no discernible difference between
the controllers. It's been a while and I was pretty much over it Dan.

I needed 3 new WS457's so I ordered them from Automated Outlet.  All were Soft-Start.   One went in an attic room, no timers or macros attached since the light is rarely on.  Anybody want the other 2?  I also have 2 Soft-Start LM465's, same offer.  They have SS on the cases in indelible marker.
