SC1200 and accessories.
« on: February 24, 2011, 10:40:06 AM »

I am trying to get info and suggestions... I got the SC1200.  Can the WS467 modules be implemented into this system, or no?  I read in the book that they should work if set to the right codes.  Also the light modules... I get them to work when they are almost on top of the alarm box, but once I move them they don't work anymore.  Any suggestions?  Getting tech support from X10 is like pulling teeth.  I have sat on hold 4 times at 30+ minutes each, and still not reached anyone.  BTW... does the SC1200 answer on like 10 rings for everyone?

Yes, the console sends X10 codes which light modules and appliance modules will respond to.
Your lack of distance may be due to electrical noise generated by switching power supplies (computers, cell phone chargers, flat panel TVs, etc.) or could be a phase coupling problem in your home.
Time to do some reading. Here is a great place to start.

As long as the X10 modules are using the same house code you set on the console. You should be able to control them.
I also think you have some power line issues.

I tested with the Radio Shack 49-1000 that is basically the same as the SC1200.
It took 30 seconds to pick up when the phone rang. I didn't count the rings.

In the Main Menu.
Selection 8 Delays.
There is a setting for the Answer Delay. The default factory time is 30 seconds. I reset mine to 5 seconds and now it picks up in few rings.
So you can set it for a shorter or longer ring time if you desire.

I finally had a tech call me back from X10.  What I don't understand is their whole "Phase" issue.  The house is wired correct, so it should work.
I found the answer delay.

Nope, boomer, house being wired right has nothing to do with phase coupling problems. If you read the link I provided earlier you will understand. Also, don't rule out noise, it creates as many problems as the lack of phase coupling. You can test for a phase coupling problem by turning on a 220V appliance like dryer or oven and se if the remote module now responds.

Glad to hear you found the answer delay.

Noise, phase coupling and signal suckers. Can make X10 communications spotty as mentioned.
Jeff's tutorials are a good place to find information.
Uncle Phill's information is also very good.
