I have a lamp (LM465) just two meters away from my computer that also gives me sporadic problems.
Hmm, I unplugged the laptop and the LM465 works including the dimmer. I plug the laptop in and the LM465 is a no go.

Is there a plug-in type filter???

Also, what is a good decorator light switch for low-voltage (4 watts total) light and I have a patio light that has three of the compact florescent light bulbs in it?

X10Pro XPPF is a five amp X10 type filter and works well.
Just don't push it to its five amp rating. They seem to get warm and smell warm if pushed to their limits.
A laptop power supply would be fine on one.

Many EBay and on line dealers have them very reasonably priced.

The filters are cheap and always good to have one on hand, but with a high output repeater like the XTBIIR, you *might not* need a filter. The X10 signal is boosted to a level greater than the noise. I have eliminated small noise problems even with a "marginal" repeater like the XPCR. However my first choice would be XTBIIR. With X10 repeaters the axiom of "you get what you pay for" is true.
