WS13A getting stuck in off mode
« on: December 10, 2011, 08:40:18 PM »

Have a set of recently installed WS13As controlling my (massive) christmas light setup, one works fine, the other, for some reason, likes to get stuck in the OFF mode alot. Pushing the rocker to activate it manually produces a small tapping sound, but no switching on. It'll finally become unstuck and turn on after about 9-10 tries of the button. After that it'll work normally for a bit. Failed module perhaps? or something that's easily fixable?

I do not have any WS13A, but IF the WS13 uses a cam operated latching relay like the Appliance Module, it might be a stuck cam on the latching relay. Clicking is probably the solenoid trying to ratchet the cam. Easiest fix is to replace entire switch. Especially if still under warranty.
I have fixed Appliance Modules with stuck cam, by taking apart and spraying silicone lub on cam assembly then using a probe or pick to rotate the cam several times.
Maybe another forum member can confirm if the WS13A relay is similar to the Appliance module.

I can't verify it is the same ratchet switch, but it sounds like one in a appliance module.
Your symptoms do sound like the ratchet cam is hanging up.
