How do you know ......?
« on: December 09, 2011, 05:04:00 PM »

How does one know when their spouse has finally accepted X10?
We often talk about WAF or SAF but how does one really know if they have came around?
Are they just telling you what they think you want to hear?
Today my wife put up the Christmas tree.
Every year I have to ask, "Do you want me to put it on a x10 module?"
and every year is the same answer, "Well,... OK!"
Usually it isn't until I've reminded her that it is to hard to get at the plug once the gifts are under the tree.

:o :o However to my surprise today SHE had installed the x10 module! :o :o

Have I finally won her over? rofl

My wife accepted X10 instantly. It was her idea to install a security system, not mine. She loves that she can turn the lights on from her car before entering the house as well.

I don't have a wife but she might as well be we have been together forever but I won her over I think when she could access the lights in the bedroom with out getting out of bed and then it was a sure victory with tuicemens Idea with android and the pocketmic app that allows vr to work with any user because now she can talk to the house too.  instead of hte single user that windows allows.

TUICEMEN SAVED MY LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!   rofl

I thought the wife might be hooked when she started making macro suggestions and lighting requests. When she asked me to have "the computer" remind her of things (I also use BVC).... I knew she was totally hooked.

My wife loves X10.   We've had it since the late 1980's and she likes never coming home late to a dark house.

Back in 1994 or 95 we had the "Enerlogic 1400" as a home automation controller, and about 90 X10 modules for everything from pumps, lights, fans, to home security. WAF was very low, mainly because of "missed commands". i.e. getting no response when a Maxi Controller button was pushed to start some "event" (macro). etc.

And then Mr Enerlogic blew it's Dallas clock chip. Obviously the whole system was down until a new clock chip came in three weeks later.

After the first week, wifie started asking when I would "get the house fixed?!".... I knew then...

According to "Lady Knightrider",  Tuicemen didn't actually win his wife over.  She simply "accepted the inevitable."

She's now telling me "you have to pick and choose your battles, honey."

Obviously, you guys are lucky (including Tuicemen) as I may never "win" my wife over.  I think it stems from the time she was soaking in the tub and BVC misheard me say "bedroom lights off" as "bathroom lights off".  She sat in total darkness for the next half hour as my lack of hearing prevented her feeble cries for help from reaching my ears.   For the record, my hearing aid budget has been reallocated to more X10 toys.

Back before the XTB, my wife asked me to connect up the holiday candles evey year because some X10 modules would only work in certain locations (probably a sensitivity issue).  Now she takes care of all that herself because it is pretty much plug and play.

The "problems" are usually just loose or burn out bulbs.  And there is less of that as we migrate more to CFLs and LEDs.
