Getting started with LonWorks
« on: December 01, 2008, 06:22:18 AM »

Hello everybody,

I'm a student and recently my supervisor has given me a task to build LonWorks network. Now my main problem is to choose appropriate devices to start experimenting. After seeking, the best solution to begin is, in my opinion, Mini EVK from Echelon. But it's not enough - I want to add other devices in the future, but I don't know what exactly. I want to focus on programming concept and minimize work with hardware like creating printed circut board or soldering something. For example, is there any kind of ShortStack module with embedded host processor ready to use. Price is important for me too. Maybe the control modules from Echelon is a good solution for me? Is it easy to put together this control module with some sensor etc. and if I can easily deploy my application by Mini EVK?

I am wondering that if there is any simulation environment exist.

Any comments are welcome. I will appreciate very much.

Although you have posted in the "General Home Automation" topic, it is within the "X10 Community Forum". You may also want to post on an "open" home automation forum such as:

http://www.cocoontech.com/
http://www.remotecentral.com/
or newsgroup like "comp.home.automation"

Not to minimize the knowledge we have here, there may be some forum participants that know LonWorks, but primarly this group focuses on X10 technology and Eschelon's LonWorks is unrelated.

Thank you for quick reply. It's quite new issue for me, so I'm looking for places where I can find some help.

Echelon has their own forum. Not a member of so I don't know if there is any information on there for you about Loworks.
