My VA12A was working fine until about 4 weeks ago. No new X-10 software had been installed. (I Windows Update frequently.) The VA12a was not found some times and the driver wouldn't install sometimes. I installed the iWatchoutPro on 7.20.2011 hoping the new software had a driver fix for the VA12a besides the cool feature of the iPhone accessibility. No luck and I replaced the brand new VA12a on 7.25.2011. Driver has failed to install every time. Tech support suggested I replace a brand new VA12a after several attempts to help install driver. That takes more time than most computer people wish to take--me included. Today I installed the auto update software from x-10 and the only good thing from that is the computer spent five minutes before telling me the driver install failed. I am running Windows 7 64-bit. BTW: the VA12a works just fine on my Windows 7 32-bit with NO problems. Any advice?

Are you plugging the VA12A directly into the PC, or are you using a hub? If it is a hub, is is a powered hub, or not?
You might try a different USB port, sometimes that can force a driver reinstall.

I think I found the cure!!!
I've been running under Windows 7 64 bit. I was reading about all the problems people are having when they combine the VA15A with Win7 64 bit, so I replaced 64 with 32 and BINGO!!  I have color again!!

OOOPS!!  Make that VA12A NOT VA15A (hopefully you knew what I meant)

hmmmm... not sure why that is a cure... I have va12a on win 7 64 bit on 2 machines and it works fine........

  I have been having the same dang issue since installing that stupid plug-in for my iPhone, which they sold to me at a great discount! Now I know why the discount. I've tried every trick in the book ppl, and then some, and nothing has made any difference other than get my temper hotter. Especially since no one from Tech support has taken the time to respond to my very polite emails.

   Hey guys... I have to to you that I found the answer to my problem. It wasn't cheap to resolve, but when I let common snese take over, it only took a few seconds to discover the real issue. That is if you have an extra VA12A cable you can use to test it with. Just swapped out the cables with the other computer, discovered that it was the cable that was causing my problems all this time, had no choice but to buy another. Trust me, E-Bay is much cheaper than X10, even when X10 tells you that they are going to give you a deal at 50% off, be checking E-Bay while your on the phone.

Aaargh.  It's a brand new cable.  I can't get it to work.  HELP
