Foscam Cameras, Video & AHP
« on: January 25, 2012, 12:34:21 PM »

I've been using an XCam 2 with AHP for several years.  The video feed is less than optimal - lots of flicker. I had blamed the flickering on the latest AHP update.  More on that in a minute.

I just purchased 2 Foscam wireless cameras.  The infrared images at night are outstanding as are the visible light images during daytime.  I also bought the Blue Iris software which works great.

The software lets me also view the XCam 2 camera via my VA12 adapter.  Back to the flickering - it seems that AHP is not to blame for the less than optimal video but the VA12 drivers apparently are as the XCam 2 picture quality is as bad using Blue Iris.

Now for the fun part.  While Blue Iris lets me view the XCam 2 camera, AHP isn't even aware that the Foscam camera exist.  Which is a shame since the motion detection of the Foscam cameras is excellent.

With my SC1200, I've got a security macro that turns on video recording via AHP whenever an MS10A motion detector is tripped and the SC1200 is armed.

Blue Iris can execute a macro whenever the Fosacam motion detectors are enabled and tripped.

Since the Foscam cameras don't communicate with AHP, I'd like to know if it would be possible to execute a Blue Iris macro that would fire off the security macro in AHP.  Or get the Foscam cameras to set off the SC1200 and possibly have AHP execute a macro.

Any info would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about BlueIris, or the Foscam cameras, but this may be possible using the SDK.
If you can get the software to run a command on the PC with AHP on it, then it should be pretty easy, in fact.
You'll need to download and install the SDK (if you haven't done so already), and then create a macro with a HouseCode/UnitCode trigger (as opposed to a security module trigger).
Then, just have BlueIris trigger the macro using the AHCMD program from the SDK.

I'll have a look at the SDK.  That seems to be an interesting approach.  I noticed that when I went to the download page there was an ad for X-10's branding of the Foscam camera, except for $25 more than I paid for the Foscam brand.  Their 'More Info' page doesn't mention AHP.  It'd be nice if they would provide an SDK script along with the camera.

The Airsight cameras (X10 branding of the Foscam ones) are not compatible with X10's home automation products.
X10 has been branching out in recent months to other product lines, none of which are meant to be compatible with their "legacy" products.

With the blue iris stuff go to the blue iris forum and look into bi-command  it is a free download from blue iris it allows for x10 integration from the foscams as far as the flickering x10 cams it is probably the v12a or the drivers for it.  I have tried to get these to work multiple time with no success so I started looking else where and found the foscams and blue iris.  Ill never go back to x10 for cams
