A better voice for T.A.C. (Androids)
« on: March 03, 2012, 09:55:09 AM »

The voice that comes with Androids (Pico) is a little better then the standard XP voices.
Although with TAC you can change the rate and pitch to fine tune, it still isn't like my Kate.
I know there are several other voices out there for the Droids but haven't found one that appeals to me yet.
I'd be interested to hear what others are using.
Has anyone found a voice set that they really like.
If so post a link to it to make it easier for others looking for the ultimate voice.

I had tried the Ivona speech engine on my airpad as they also make voices for the PC.
The beta tests stopped before I had a chance to fully test any of the voices.
However I looked at Ivona again since getting a new android enabled phone and see they have extended the beta testing.
Voices don't sound the same on my airpad as the phone. ::) :'

I'm also currently playing with Svox speech engine as they have trial versions of their voices to test.
Currently I tend to be leaning towards them as there are a few more adjustments that can be made to the selected voices.
Also I know how much the full versions will be.

These two seem to be the only options to Pico right now that I've found.
However they both have a good variety of voices.

I've noticed the [Kate 16] voice I use on my HA PC sounds differently on different PC's (or even different speaker systems). I'd actually be surprised if the voice didn't sound a little different on the different devices. But the voice should sound like the same (non) person.

Kate I can get to sound verry close on all PCs I have here on even my notepad using the rate and pitch ajustments.
However there was one Ivona voice that just creeped me out when I put it on my airpad.
It was like she was whispering.
Maybe it was a bad install as it sounded real good on my phone which is where I tried her first.
I'm leaning towards the SVox voices so far as they have more ajustments and a quick link to voice input settings which the AirPAd doesn't have.

I was getting by with the default voice on my phone running Gingerbread using the Australian language and tweeking the pitch and rate in TAC.
However I've updated to ICS on this phone and the default voice is now male.
The male voice is actually very good but doesn't work for me.

This wouldn't be a issue if I used the max face set however I use one of the female avatars. :(
I guess I'm back to testing! ::) :'
