Since you solved your problem by moving things around, I suspect finding the actual issue is less important now.  I had a similar problem that was resolved initially.  When I tried to expand my setup, the issue came back.  I ended up buying the XTBM signal meter and mapping out my entire electrical system.  I thought I understood things before doing that...I was wrong.  dhouston's guide probably answers a lot more on noise than you will learn on your own without test equipment.

Basically, noise is localized to the source.  The stronger the noise, the further it is an issue.  Signal suckers are a similar problem that are localized.  If you have a signal sucker (power strip on your AV setup for instance) and install a lamp module on an outlet on the same circuit, you will probably have low or no signal to your CM15A unless it's on the same circuit and close.  The probably won't affect any other circuit and might not even be a problem if the lamp module is plugged in far enough away.  If you have a noise generator, it can actually cause problems over your entire house if strong enough.  There are stories on the forum of a neighbor's dying CFL breaking their entire setup.
