Everything has stopped
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:53:14 PM »

Anyone have some suggestions on where I should look to solve this problem.

Nothing is working, all the times I have set for lights have stopped and manual does not work.
I checked the batteries in the interface and the computer seems to be communication with the interface.

As for the already programed times, aren't they stored in the x10 modular for each device/light? So why
would they all stop?

Thanks B:(

New noise on the same circuit as the CM15A. (I'm guessing CM15A since you did not tell us whoop about anything in your system).

Dave makes a very good point (that we seem to make here all the time). The more information you can give us, the better chance we have to help you.
It *does* sound like something is blocking or interfering with the signal, but that might not be the true problem.

When did the problem start?
Did *anything* change in your home around the time the problem started? Think about *anything* that you might have plugged in, that wasn't plugged in before (new cellphone charger, laptop, TV, surge protector, etc).
Did you move anything from one outlet to another, anywhere in your home?
Did you recently install or replace any light bulbs (CFL or LED) anywhere in your home (not just in the lights controlled by X10)?

What type(s) of modules do you have?
What type(s) of bulbs are you using with them?
What model interface are you using (CM19, CM15, or CM11)?
You mentioned the lights won't turn ON. If you turn them on manually (at the device itself, NOT in the software), can you turn them OFF from within AHP?

Let's start there, and see where it goes.

The problem started I would say about two months ago.

The interface is a HAL11A.

I don't remember much about what has changed and the few things I can think of (like installing LED
track lights) was done before the problem showed up and didn't cause any problem at that time.

All the lights being controlled are incandescent but i have CFL and LED in the house but they did not cause any
problems when installed

The light switches (a WS467 and WS13A-CAT-HM I think) work fine at the switch when I manually turn
them on and off but not via a programed timer or via the computer interface.

I realize this may not be as complete a picture of the the situation as you would like but hopefully it's enough
to give me some tips on troubleshooting the problem.

Thanks

Do you have any other controllers or remotes that can send X10 commands and do they still work?

HAL-11A looks like an X10 CM11A.
Are you using their customized software or the X10 Active Home Software?
When you send On and Off commands through the software. The modules in question also do not respond?
I would suspect a power line signal problem or the interface has gone belly up.
If you have a module that can be moved. Like a Lamp Module. Try it in the same outlet as the HAL-11A. Can you control it there?

HAL-11A looks like an X10 CM11A. YES, I'm sure it's just a re-branded CM11A.

BTW using the very old Active Home software V1.4.

Well the latest Active Home {serial port CM11A} is 1.42.
Active Home Pro is a 100% different animal and for the CM15A except the last few versions where CM11A support was added.

Yes the CM11A serial cable is a special one with unique connections.

...the damn phone cable connector on the HAL-11A is not a standard rj45 connector.
The CM11A cable is a standard DB9 on one end and a modular 4P4C (headset phone) connector on the CM11A end. The pinout is given here...
