3 Way Switch Stopped Working
« on: August 16, 2015, 08:20:08 PM »

Have been running this 3 way x10 light system for 5+ years in our garage. it consists of an RWS17 3way switch, WS14A companion switch, MS14A EagleEye Motion Sensor, and a RR501 Transceiver module. last week the system quit working. I changed the batteries in the motion sensor and reset the unit code to A10 again. But it still would not work. I can get the lights to operate with an HR12A remote control but the EagleEye i will no longer operate the lights. Currently I am bypassing the wall switches. I have the EagleEye set up with a lamp plugged into a lamp module in the garage which for some reason works just fine. I've replaced the RWS17 light switch with a known good switch but it still won't work with the EagleEye. I've also changed the unit code to A3. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

So...

MS14A --> RR501 --> RWS17  does not work

HR12A --> RR501 --> RWS17  works

MS14A --> RR501 --> Lamp Module works

X10 problems are normally associated with weak signal strength or powerline noise, but that may not be the case here if the RR501 controls the RWS17 fine from the PalmPad but not the Eagle Eye.

Were the tests performed at the same time with the same electrical devices (lights, chargers, etc.) running?

Was the position of the RR501 moved closer to the MS14A when you changed to using the lamp module?

If nothing has changed with the ms14a or the rr501 or anything new place in direct line of sight between the two then the MS14 may be failing.
I've had a few of these quit after time.

Have you tried a passive antenna with the ms14 to try and increase its range?
Does the ms14 work if it is close to the rr501?
You say you have tried new batteries did you test these to be sure they are good?
Is it possible one of the new batteries is bad?

Thanks for the replies. All testing was done at the same time. All devices are located in the garage. I have tried moving the RR501 around to different outlets in the garage and even added a second RR501 at a different outlet. Everything is pretty close together.
The batteries in the MS14A are new. The MS14A seems to be working fine as it is currently in use with an appliance module and also worked with lamp module and door chime. These tests were all done yesterday at the same time with the same wiring.
A new development. While the lights will turn ON either via the RWS17 wall switch or companion switch or the HR12A remote, they will also turn OFF on their own after a minute delay and no motion. So it looks like the OFF signal is being successfully rcvd from the MS14A and turning off the lights but it still won't turn them back on.
