Marmitek LD11 OR Insteon DIN Rail Dimmer 2452-422
« on: July 26, 2015, 10:25:10 AM »

Hi,

I have used LD11s before, but not Insteon DIN dimmers.

In a new installation would you choose LD11s or Insteon 2452-422, price aside.

I like the concept that Insteon uses dual band technology, seem more modern and also has a Insteon Hub so that is some of my installations where the users are less technical, they won't need a server or CM15PRo running.

I was wondering about reliability, dimming GU10 LEDs and how the Insteon interoperate with other X10 controllers.

Many thanks Dev.

Dual Band is only for Insteon messages.
X10 commands are not resent by RF or power lines. So in a mixed system the Insteon module would not be better with X10 commands.

Also Insteon is eliminating X10 support in all their latest releases.
I don't see X10 support listed for the 2452-422  any more.

In a completely new installation. That maybe a different situation.

Right now the only EU Insteon Interface controller is a HUB and it can't do as much as a CM15Pro. Though the HUB maybe all that is required  in simpler setups as you pointed out.

Good info and thoughts. Thanks for the reply Brian, and sorry for the delay!

Yes indeed Insteon confirmed in an email that they will be discontinuing X10 support moving on.
They do mention X10 support still for the 2452-422 on their website http://www.insteon.eu/2452-x22-din-rail-dimmer.html

I think, apart from the cost!, I can't see any cons tho- given that Insteon's DIN modules can do both X10 and RF. So even if we only do X10 they will continue to work with the X10 generic controllers; and the newer (non X10 supported) Insteon hubs.

Would still be interested in any comments on reliability and dimmable LED lamps these work with.

Thanks.

Insteon modules that still have X10 Primary Address support. Do Insteon Power Line and RF. With X10 power line only. No X10 RF is processed.
