I just purchased a SS13A (Stick-A-Switch)
but I can't get it to work with CM15A.  Can
anyone get the SS13A to work?  What other
transceiver do I need?

Some users report horrible range between the
stick-a-switch and (depending on how long
you've had it - older ones are worse) crummy
CM15a receiver.  Try sneaking up to within a
couple feet...and if you haven't already -
try swivelling the CM15a antenna horizontal
or upside down - that sometimes helps a bit
with range.  How far away do you want the
switch from the Cm15a?

My switch is 20ft from the CM15A.

That's near the outer edge of coverage to
what other people have experienced with the
CM15a - if through walls...even tougher.  But
have a go at it and see.

If you have extra TM751 transceivers laying
around, try plugging one of those in for
greater coverage.  So that some of my
SS13As would work.

The only downside to this is that dimming
might get screwed up. If you have two
receivers, and they both get the same
command from the remote, the will each send
the dim command down the wire, and you'll
get a "double-dim" effect. Again, it depends
on the location of the receivers. if the
remote's signal is only strong enough to
reach one of the receivers, then it isn't a
problem.

You can do what I do - have all your
SS13A's send their commands on a different
house code.  In AHP, you can then have a
corresponding macro to each switch.  Of
course, this makes dimming at the switch
itself useless, but I have macros to run
preprogrammed lighting scenes, so I don't
really have that need.

What do the technical specification spell
out on the Stick-a-switch?  If there is no
stated transmitting distance limit than
shouldn't it be the 100 Ft. unobstructed
range that X10 RF alludes to?

KC: Do you have another remote to compare
your SS13A to? What kind of range do you get
from it? If you've already adjusted the
antenna, can you try moving the CM15A to a
different location -- a little farther from
the computer or monitor maybe?

I have the Palm Pad HR12A-C0M and the
SlimFire working with my CM15A from a 30 -
40 ft distance. Both are working fine but
not my SS13A-C.

I tried 9 Stick-A-Switches: Set the switches
to K1, K2, K3 (house & unit codes that are
not currently used) and while watching the
CM15A Activity Monitor display, I moved away
from the CM15A and pressing the K1 OFF at
each new distance until I saw no response.
The results were 7 units communicated
reliably to about 23 feet and 2 units
couldn’t get past 12 feet.   Selecting one
of the 12 foot units I set the House & Unit
code to A1 and I could get the TM751-C to
click on/off at about 32 feet.  Seems that
the SS13A-C may have some serious quality
control problems cause that represents a 22%
plus unit performance at 52% below the
others; And that the CM15A could also use
more robustness in its RF receiver.

Using the TM751-C Mini-Transceiver to
augment the CM15A RF receiver’s range and
sensitivity creates some nuisance because of
the command echo.

Tony:  Thanks for doing that experiment.
It sounds like there are two issues here.
First of all it looks like the SS13A isn’t
tuned as accurately as other transmitters.
Secondly, it seems like the CM15A is
pickier than the TM751 about the tuning of
the transmitter.

As for “Using the TM751-C Mini-Transceiver
to augment the CM15A RF receiver,” my
suggestion is to put the TM751 on a house
code that isn’t being transceived by the
CM15a and put it in a remote part of the
house that has several SS13A’s (or motion
sensors) near by and put them on the same
house code.  Where needed, you can use
macros to relay the commands onto different
house codes.  This will slow down the
response time, but it is better them not
working at all.
