Smart device general acceptance?
« on: May 02, 2019, 11:42:38 PM »

Looks like we're going to need a LOT more tin foil since 2/3 of those with smart home devices don't trust the companies who sold them.  I've never mad a hat so I'm not sure how many rolls will be needed for approximately 4000 (the number in the survey group needing them) let alone however many that extrapolate to in the general population.

Do you know Ben Lovejoy? Or better asked.... do you know how he makes his living? Have you read his books? We're grown-ups here. And most of us know you can't believe everything that pops-up (and is read for "free") on the InterWeb. Expect to see those well cultivated fears marketed later in a techno-thriller.

Don't know the author or anything about him.  He quoted a poll that I did not participate in or research the details on.  I simply posted a link that Google AI provided when I looked at the feed.  I see these same types of articles daily from standard news sources, but this was the first one that claimed to have research to back it up rather than somewhat of an oped by the author.

Just today I had 2 more articles from 2 separate authors and 2 separate news organizations (pcmag.com and washingtonpost.com).  I wouldn't consider those fringe sources.  Then again, I wouldn't consider CNN, the New York Post, or most of the other sources I've seen posted here as fringe.  But no, I have not checked the credentials of the many authors who have written similar articles making up data concerns about cloud based smart speakers.

I went to find the 2 stories on my list this morning and found them along with a few others.  Before anyone believes anything they read I encourage researching the data behind it.  I'd recommend the same prior to providing any big for profit personal data that they don't want shared outside of say, a conversation with a spouse.   rofl

I had a few leftovers from dinner.  Let me know if anyone has any foil they don't need so I can make my hat.
