I have a PHS01 Flood Motion Sensor that is
set to House code D1.  Three "mornings" in a
row now I have noticed a bad slowdown in
response from motion sensors and the CM15A.
I traced the problem (by way of the Activity
Monitor) to a continuous stream of PLC's
being sent from the Flood Sensor.  Seems the
unit was sending a D6 (dusk code D1+5) in
the morning after the expected dawn code was
sent.  The only way to stop the stream was to
shut power off to the unit from a breaker
(unit is hard wired per specs).  After a
power reset, the erroneous transmissions
stopped.  This has occurred 3 mornings in a row.
Anyone else experiencing this problem ?

I just can't imagine that, I must be sooo
luckey,  mine just performs as it is suposed
to it just works and works and works and
doesn't misbehave for a whole year now!
Ever since I disconnected it is has behaved
as expected.

I've seen this once with mine and had to
readjust the motion sensor where the sun
wasn't directly hitting the sensor.  The
sensor is very sensitive to direct sunlight
and even extrem temps.

PHS01,
Mine is under a rear deck cover and it was
cloudy this morning. This was the 3rd day in
a row that the unit decided to start sending
a dusk code plus 5 in a continuous stream.
I have the dusk sensitivity set all the way
to dark so the light wont come on until it is
almost dark.  This happens only in the
morning... it makes my whole system slow to a
crawl and become unreliable.  o well... we
shall see what happens tomorrow morning.

My guess is you have a faulty PHS01.

Infrared sensors (any make) will saturate
if aimed at the sun, and depending o
circuit it will probably oscillate,
switching from dusk to down at a rapid rate.
We use infrared sensor to detect fire ( in
excess of 200ft away) , I was able to
minimize the sun effect but not totally
eliminate, our instrument sells for >$1500,
a low cost sensor the only choice is to aim
it away from direct sunshine.
By the way, safety sensors for garage door
opener have the similar effect I need to
realign mine in spring and fall or the door
will not close.

Thanks for the info. I must have a good
sensor.  It will detect a butane lighter at
40 feet and costs only $39. You must have
missed my explanation earlier.  The unit is
installed on my deck area.  It is a 20 X 50
foot totally covered deck, It was cloudy and
early morning.  There was no sun. It has been
raining on the sunny Gulf a lot lately. I was
not getting a dusk signal, dawn signal or an
osillation between the two. The dawn signal
occurred earlier and on schedule.  What I was
receiving was a errant, stuck dawn+5 signal
used to switch other modules on or off.
A power reset stopped it for now.
I think Roger probably hit the nail just
right.. I will see tomorrow if the dawn
signal starts the goofy thing acting up again.

In our part of the world outdoor infrared
motion detector are a problematic, I never
use them outdoor, to many false activation.
If you are handy with a soldering iron,
look closely at the solder joints, it
appears to be a loose connection.
Ps our fire detectors are designed to
survive an explosion, they are designed to
survive in very harsh conditions.

You never use outdoor motion detectors
outdoors ?  To date, I have not had any
trouble with the sensor due to this hot sunny
southern sky.
Wonder why a loose connection only occurs in
the morning after the dusk sensor activates ?
Well, I will admit, It may be a loose
connection but it has only done this 3 times
and only just after the dusk code was issued.
I'll check the +5 switch and see. Maybe it is
loose.

I live in Calgary(Alberta Canada), winter
can be harsh, and infrared motion
controlled light go on/off constantly,
during cold spell and high wind. A cold
solder joint is typical cause around here,
but then again you probably do not
experience changes in temperature of  20
degree C or more in 24 hour period.

Sounds like it's defective or has been
damaged. I checked with one of our
knowledgeable hardware people and he's never
heard of the problem before. The dusk/dawn
features are run by a photocell, not by the
PIR that detects motion, so I don't think
that would be the problem.

I agree and thanks for info..
Will see tomorrow morning if it goes haywire
again. Seems strange that it only does this
in the morning.  The unit has only been
online since late Jan05 ,is well protected
and still apprears new.
