CM15A Not For Me
« on: April 23, 2005, 05:54:11 PM »

Hi All,

I have been attempting to find ways to
read 'preset dim level' from the CM15A.
I am a (sort of) programmer and have even
tried the AHP SDK. SmartHome (an x10 rival)
makes a VERY popular temperature sending
unit that sends the temperature values
as 'preset dim codes'. Someone has now
apparently decided that these codes are
obsolete.

Shame on them. I still need to monitor
temperatures in my house.

I just ordered the SmtHme 1132cu USB
interface. Those are the folks that happen
to think that the codes I want to read are
not obsolete.

The sad part is that I will soon have a
bunch of useless x10 software. Oh yea, I
bought all of the plug ins.

For basic on/off light control x10 is great.
I will not argue that at all.

Regards,

Ken

Oh yes the TempLinc. There have been other
messages about reading the preset dim
messages that convert to the temperature
readings.

Just for the record.

I have HAD to purchace a SmartHome 1132CU so
that I can continue to control my home
heating and air conditioning. When X10
advertizes 'home control', read the fine
print.

I will have to purchace the video capture
software again as AHP does not work with
other software.

net loss (dont know, a couple of hundred).

Be sure to see PC magazine for X10 reviews.

Ken M,
I would be interested in hearing more about
what methods, devices etc you use to control
your home A/C system.  I installed a 3 1/2
Ton Geothermal Heatpump system a couple of
years ago and would be interested in your
uses of home automation products to enhance
usability or $ energy savings.  My unit was a
piece of cake to install (all inside) and I
save anywhere between 20-30% on electrical
usage each month.  Maybe I can squeeze
more...smile...

SteveRF

Ken:  You did the right thing.  I
wanted "disconnected from the pc operation"
so I got the 1132CUP and ...
My system is now operating satisfactorily; I
have replaced the X10 AHP/CM15A with 1132CUP
and V572AB and discarded the TM751’s.
Thanks X10 Company.  Your product
performance, service, and attitude helped me
decide.  Life is good again!

With a grin on my face, and no insult
intended, I will say this.

SteveRF, I grew up in the midwest. Our idea
of Geothermal heat pumps are cattle.
If you put 3 1/2 tons of those heat pumps in
your living room, no x10 device in the world
is going to be able to accurately control
them.

My use is much more simple. Turning
electrical heating units on and off and
activating exhaust fans.

Have a good day,

Ken
