Can't uninstall the program
« on: July 18, 2005, 08:18:21 PM »

 I got my RMA number. I want to uninstall AHP
I'm running XP HOme SP2I go to add/remove
programs and try to remove it and it says
"the win16 Subsystem was unable to enter
protected mode, DOSX.exe must be in your
autoexec.nt and present in your PATH. Now,
I've seen this error with other 16-bit apps
(like the old AH 1.42), but AH runs fine. Why
can't I remove AH PRO???

I think it's hilarious that AH PRO is a
16-bit application , btw.  8-}

I don't know what would cause those messages;
AHP certainly isn't a 16-bit app, and
shouldn't need any of that to uninstall.

Running the AHP uninstall will remove the
ActiveHome Pro application, but not the
shared X10 components. If you want to remove
the shared components stop the X10 Device
Network Service (in Services, from
Administrative Tools in Control Panel). Then
remove the Program Files\Common Files\X10
directory. If you do that, other X10 software
you have will no longer work, but the rest of
the AHP components will be removed.

I have a problem where something on my
machine tweaks DOSX.EXE occasionally,
requiring me to replace it with a known good
original.  So I have a script that does this
automatically before running AH.

This time, I could run AH fine, but trying to
Remove AHP using Add/Remove programs gave me
the DOSX error.  A reboot, followed by a
manual delete of DOSX.EXE (as the script
wouldn't over-write it for some reason), and
a replacement of DOSX.EXE, allowed the
uninstall.  So the machine was in a state
where AH -would- work, but AHP-uninstall
-wouldn't-.  Fixing DOSX.exe properly fixed
the problem.  However, perhaps you should
replace your uninstaller with a 32-bit
application 8-}

Even if you managed to run the “uninstall”,
X10nets remains beyond, you will need to
manually remove the driver, and delete all
X10 related files and folders.
I had less problem removing virus and
malware from my computer that complete
removing X10 software.
