Does anyone believe that by running Windows
XP and using the Remote connection within it
one may access their Active Home Pro
software (Remotely)and be able to complete
do away with these clown's server and their
MYHouse Bull*%#t software?

You could do that.  Your computer would need
to be accessible via RDP across the
internet.  Not for me but if that's OK with
you, it would work fine.  You would actually
have more functionality because you would
have full console access.

Thanks for the response Marty! I thought
that it might be able to work, now I just
have to upgrade this remote computer to XP!

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a multi-
channel protocol that allows a user to
connect to a computer running Microsoft
Terminal Services. Clients exist for most
versions of Windows, and other operating
systems such as Linux. The server listens
by default on TCP port 3389. The Remote
Desktop Connection software is pre-
installed with Windows XP. To run it, click
Start, click All Programs, click
Accessories, click Communications, and then
click Remote Desktop Connection. Search the
web for more info.

The worse part is the support, I just got
off the phone with them and was disapointed
again. I have purchased every add on
availible. i.e. all the software for the
old X10 and now for the new AHP except for
the new My House, I called to see if I
could get the new software for free since I
had already spent 150 bucks on the other
software and they are offering it all for
49 dollars, they of course said no way!
Sorry X10 you have lost another loyal
customer.

Wallace,
You would not be happy with the product
anyway! I bought it to remotely monitor my
property and it is very unreliable! Server
drops all of the time, connections don't
make, cameras work when they want to! Don't
waste your money!

There is an option to Smart Macros (SM) and
MyHouse (MH) if you're a little technically
inclined and want to play around with it.
It's called
http://www.homedomination.com/ ... the
downside is that you have to leave your
computer running (works with CM11 and CM15
but doesn't store the data in the
controller) and it's not as pretty as MH or
SM but it seems to have it's advantages ...
like it works.

I bought AHP, I-witness and MH as a package
deal, after being misled by a salesperson
that I probably wouldn't need SM.  When I
found out that I did need SM, they wanted
me to pay full price, but said that I had a
voucher for $22 that I could apply.  Well,
thinking $28 was better than $50, I went
for it.  They only gave me a $16 credit
because they charged me $6 for shipping
(for a download???)  After several emails
and 6 phone calls, I still haven't received
the credit ... I know it's only $6, but
it's the principle.

Sorry, I had to do this in 2 posts.

Then, I installed MyHome and found that I
have to use their server (I must have
missed that part in the fine print) to talk
from my notebook downstairs to the computer
upstairs that's got the CM15 attached ...
and that doesn't even work that great.  I
can update the file upstairs, like changing
a macro by mapping a drive to the file on
my desktop but that's about it.

With Home Domination, I can view my cams,
activate lights remotely and even start
macros, plus I have greater control.
There's just something about running my
data thru X-10's server that spooks me,
especially when I'm just trying to
communicate in my own home.

I guess X10 isn't concerned about building
customer loyalty or repeat business.  My
lowly advice, wait until X10 gets there act
together and responds to some of the
requests of their users, or pay the price
and deal with the issues.
