CM15A USB Driver won't load
« on: March 19, 2005, 12:40:42 PM »

I have just recieved activehome pro and the
CM15A. I am using WINXP Pro SP2. I
Installed the software and hooked up the
USB cable when told.

The computer recognized a USB device was
plugged in but fails to identify it.  The
driver will not load.  AHP warns that the
module is not connected. When I try to
manually load the driver (by pointing
device manager to the folder with the .sys
and .inf files, I get an error message that
says "there is no information about your
hardware...".

I called phone support and they told me
that I probably got a newer version of the
CM15A (ordered on 10 March) and there is
probably some difference in the hardware
that makes windows think the driver does
not belong to the CM15A.

Phone tech support told me to email
ahpsupport@x10.com but I have not gotten a
response (only one day now).

Does anyone here no of this problem and
have a work-around or fix?

I had the same problem. I kept at it and it
eventually worked.  Not sure what did it.  I
went to device manager and uninstalled
the 'unkown usb device' between each
attempt. I had removed and reinstalled the
batteries at one point.

George : Try turning off the pc disconect
the Cm15a and uplug from the outlet, remove
the batteries. Now replace the
batteries, plug it back in ad reconect to the
pc now fire up the pc. when windows loads if
it finds the Usb and asks for the location
type in c:\program files\common files\x10
\DriverInstall\Wireless Transceivers .
I had to do this when I moved over to my 98
machine.

Why is x10 so secretive with the device
driver.  after 1 day... I give up. 15A isn't
ready for prime time.  I won't believe any
typical user will tolerate this install and
uninstall.. go into device manager...
blah... time to return this and stay with
the good old remote.

tuicemen, Your sequence suggestion worked.
The CM15A and activehome pro are working
now.  Thanks.

I don't know why it has to be done in that
sequence, but it worked.

I had a similar USB problem.

I had my old CM11A plugged in to the power
outlet at the same time I tried to use the
CM15A for the first time. I had the same
USB problems you indicated. Immediately
after removing the CM11A from the power
outlet, the CM15A connected correctly and
has continued to connect correctly.

Because I want to use the CM15A, and not
troubleshoot it, I haven't tried to
replicate the problem yet.

Had the same driver problem.(using
winXP/SP2)
1. removed the CM11A from 110volt
2. uninstalled the "unknown usb device"
3. unpluged the CM15A
4. removed the batteries
5. reinstalled the batteris
the unit worked
6. repluged the CM15A back into 110.
I also noticed that before pluging into the
110v the transmit distance changed quite a
bit placing my body between the CM15 and
receivers.

thanks to geo&andy

Two things: 1) If you get the Unkown Device
in Device Manager or other detection problem
with the CM15A, unplug the device from USB,
unplug from AC, and remove the batteries.
When you connect it again it should be fine.
2) I think this only happens on an initial
install, and only if the install is run while
the CM15A is connected. If you install
without the CM15A is connected I don't think
it happens.

I don't think this problem occurs with the
new driver.
