Problems after upgrading from AH to AHP
« on: May 16, 2006, 09:18:36 PM »

Have been using AH with the serial CM11A control module for quite a few years now.  I have a rather large house, and have an X10 phase coupler/repeater in place.  This may fall under the category of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" because I just installed the USB -based CM15A and AHP 3.203, migrated the old config file, and now almost nothing works.  I have some rather simple macros that worked perfectly with the old one, and now don't.  I love the user interface, and aside from having to retry a couple of times to get the module to be recognized by XP, the usability of the software seems fine....    if only it would WORK!  Simple daily lamp timers will work one day, but not the next.  The logs indicate that the module thinks it's doing what it's supposed to, but my lights tell me otherwise.

Does the CM15A put out the same signal strength as the CM11A?  I'm at a complete loss as to what's going on, and haven't found any threads in here that even begin to approach what I'm experiencing.

I'm about ready to put a serial card into my new computer (which is the reason I finally made the jump in the first place), and go back ot the old module and code.

Do I have a bad CM15A?   Or is this a feature?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you import your .x10 files from AH?  If you did, AHP will migrate everything you had in AH and convert it.  I don't remember a config file in AH, it saved your modules, rooms and timers as .x10 files.   One of my .x10 files was named Master.x10. After import it was Master.ahx.

Once imported, you can rename, add to, delete and create any new timers.

When I got AHP, that's what I did, and everything worked after the import.

Yes, I did import the config file from AH, and it appeared to have picked up the module types and imported the timers fine.  I had to change the macro settings so it would send an "ON" request instead of the 100% bright on some of the lamp modules, but even some of the simple "ON" requests in my night time macro to turn on outside lights haven't been working consistently.

I did a clear config and reloaded timers to the interface last night.  For the first time since it's been installed, the macro to turn off all the lights actually worked.  Not sure if it was the 15th reload that did it, or if this was a fluke.  I guess I'l find out tonight when my night time macro attempts to kick in.

The only difference between this morning and other mornings is that I left the PC up with AHP running.  I have double-checked, and all the macros are set to store in the interface, so I wouldn't have expected that to make any difference.

Did you play with the hardware settings within AHP for the CM15A? and preferences?
transcieved housecodes not auto or monitoring?

using simple macros? no conditions or video recording yet?

with your old AH and the CM11A did you use any TM751s? or other repeaters?  what repeater is the one you use now?

the CM15A does not have the same voltage out (power line range) as the CM11A did.
try antenna strait out from the wall instead of up, some have said modifications can help.
maybe the CM15A is more susceptible to noise - i dont know :)

might try starting over and set a few at a time to see where the difference is? :)

Glad to hear the file import from AH to AHP appeared to work. There were problems with that in the early versions of the software. I had to rebuilt my file almost from scratch.

If you have any transceivers around from your AH days, you might want to unplug them. The CM15A can transceive all 16 HCs. Go under "Tools" and then "Hardware Configuration" to set the HCs you need it to transceive. Just set the ones you need. If everything works that way, toss your old transceivers in a drawer.

The RF range of the CM15A can be weak, however. If you choice to use a supplemental transceiver(s) be sure and not set more than one to the same HC. Also turn off the HC in AHP.
