I have a Powerflash Burglar Alarm Interface.
It says it can be set up to turn my stereo
on when the alarm trips. Instead of the
stereo blasting, I want to activate already
existing outdoor sirens which are 12vdc
(Radio Shack) The instuctions they give with
the powerflash is kinda vague. Or maybe I'm
just slow at this stuff I didn't ask tech
service yet, cause whenever I do they never
come right out with a direct answer. Seems
like they always have to refer to their
secret notes. Hopefully someone here can
help me out

You mean the PF284? It is an interface that
when the contacts on the module are closed
[mode settings change the actions]. It sends
an X10 line signal over the power line to
activate a module on it's house and unit
code address. It will NOT turn ON any
devices unless they are on another module
controled by the X10 line signals being
addressed. If you want a module that will
have a set of closed isolated low voltage
contacts. You want a Universal Module UM506.
It has a set of contacts that close on an ON
signal and open on an OFF signal for the
house unit code it is set to. It also has
different modes of actions set by switches.
So the Powerflash could be triggered by a
closure and send an ON signal to another
module controlling the siren, but the siren
may snd an X10 line signal already. Then
just a UM506 would work. Note the DS7000
sends an All Light ON All Units OFF set of
signals when triggered and the UM506 ignores
all light ON signals.

Read the on line description. To do what X10
is mentioning. A closed set of contacts on
the Powerflash; triggered by the alarm
consoles output contacts [not a DS7000 or RS
49-1000 no dry contact outputs]; will send a
signal to an Appliance Module that the
Stereo is connected to as long as the house
unit code address matches the one on the
Powerflash Dials. Note newer stereos that
have remote on off functions may just stay
off when the AC is turned on by an appliance
module.

forum. You may find more data there as we
have explored a few things in them.

If you want to see how the Powerflash works.
Set the Input to B and the Mode to 3. Set
the house and unit code wheels to an address
of a module in your system. When you connect
the contacts on the powerflash together, the
module being address will turn on. When you
open the connection the module will go off.
I may have found a module that will use the
All Lamps ON and All Units OFF that the
DS7000 sends when triggered. More tests are
needed on my theory.
