Lamp Console not working
« on: May 08, 2005, 12:16:13 PM »

I received two lamp modules with the
Protector Plus system.  I have one setup down
stairs near the ds7000 console and one
upstairs.  They are both set to the same
House code and Unit code, but only the one
downstairs can be controlled from the remotes
and that is the only one that flashes when
the alrm is triggered.  I know both modules
work because I have switched them and they
both work on the down stairs lamp.  Why
doesnt the one upstairs work?

You may have a signal problem. Since both
work in one of the two places. If the one
not working; is on the other phase of the
houses wiring; the signal may not be getting
to the other phase. Try turning on a 220
volt appliance like an eletric stove or
dryer. test again. This is no a 100% test
but sometimes helps. If it works then a
phase coupler is needed. You may also want
to test with varrious electronic devices
unpluged from the wall. Some can absorbe
signals. Many times a computer or newer type
TV amoung other things can absorbe signals.
X10 type filters and signal couplers can be
bought if you find the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am able to get
both lamps to work in I power down a surge
protector that all my computer equipment is
plugged into.  So does that mean I need a
filter?  Do you know where I can get one and
are they expensive?

Sounds like you need an X10 type filter. I
know that there is an X10 Pro one but the
part number is not remembered at the moment
[sorry]. I used a 10 amp Smarthome one on my
UPS and have in the past used the 15 amp ACT
brand.
