DS10A and a Garage Service Door
« on: July 25, 2005, 01:36:12 AM »

Got a full x10 security setup with the
DS7000 and a DS10A on the garage service
door.  The kids go out and play when the
system is unarmed, and will leave the door
open most of the day.  When it comes time
for me to button-up the house in the
evening, I have huge problems with this one
door sensor.  It's often flashing, or
sometimes just acts as if the door is still
open.  Regardless, I can't arm the system
without bypassing this one sensor.  Can
anybody tell me how best to fix this single
sensor issue?  I've tried disconnecting the
entire system, pulling the battery, etc,
(and that works) but that's a bit much to
do every night.  Hoping for a better, more
efficient solution.  Thx in advance.  Chuck

Dear Chuck H,
The garage door sensor is most likely just
on the border of the X10 system range.
Although physical distance shows it should
be in range heavy eloctromagnetic
interference shortens the range.  This is
caused by heavy electromagnetic
interference from fuseboxes, heaters,
washing machines, dryers, car batteries,
etc.
You might want to try and get the contacts
as close to each other as possible to
ensure they "read" each other (i.e using a
makeshift bracket to increase alignment).
If that does not work then you might want
to try using a PDS01 sensor.  It has a
longer range than the DS10A.
Hope this helps.
