Security Zones?
« on: September 04, 2005, 06:13:22 PM »

My question is this, i just purchased a
voice dialer security system, and 24
door/window sensors along with motion
detectors, horn etc.  With that said, by
having only 16 zones? Does that mean i can
only have 16 devices, or can i have several
window sensors on the same zone, as i have
22 windows and 2 doors in my home? If i can
only have 16 devices how can i add to that
number? Would getting another console work
in unison with the one i already have? Any
info would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, the DS7000 is limited to a
combination of 16 door/window sensors or
motion detectors or a 16 set combination of
both, BUT you can wire in SERIES multiple
windows to one door/window sensor.
So if you have two windows on the same wall
or close together, remove one set of
magnetic contacts from an extra door/window
sensor and wire it in SERIES to a mounted
door/window sensor's magnetic contacts.
Thereby, you can cover two (or even more)
windows with one sensor.  (SERIES means
removing either wire from one of the exiting
wires of a magnetic contact, adding a new
wire to this contact and to connect to the
same screw location on a second magnetic
contact and then connecting the first
removed wire (from the original magnetic
contact) to the second screw of the second
magnetic contact.  This willl allow
electicity (from the Door/Window Sensor) to
flow to the first and then second magnetic
contact and then back to the Sensor).
Also...you can purchase two PS561s (console)
and set them up in the same house.  You can
then arm first floor as those
sensors/detectors connected to the first
console and second floor as those
sensors/motion detectors connected to the
second floor.  You can even add smoke
detectors to the extra zones if you would
like...here is a modification for smoke
detectors that a clever X10 user devised
(sorry I didn't save his name to give him
credit for his ingenuity):

I have smoke detectors that triggers a
DS7000 when smoke detected.
I used First  Alert Smoke Detectors Model
SA304 with  internal light
(avaiable at Wal-Mart $15.00).  I soldered
two wires to the coil of
a 5 vdc  relay and soldered the other ends
to the  light wires on
smoke detector(relay avaiable  at Radio
Shack $4.50). An X10 door/window
sensor was wired to the normally closed
contacts of relay - I removed
and discard  the magnetic switch. When a
detector senses  smoke and
turns on it's light, it opens the  relay
contacts and the door/window
sensor  triggers the DS7000. If DS7000 is
not armed -  it will chime -
if DS7000 is armed, it will  alarm and call
cell phone numbers I've
pre-  programed. I have one DS7000 that I
use for  security and another
that I use for a fire  alarm. Each has
seperate messages recorded -
one for break in, one for fire. One DS7000
could be used for both
security and fire  detection and use the
listen in feature of  the
DS7000 when away from home to help
determine if fire or break-in
has occured.  The DS7000 and the door/window
sensor  combination can
be used for almost any in-  home or away
from home notifier that you
can  come up with, such as water level. I'm
currently working on a
third DS7000 system  to use for a high and
low temperature  notifier
. Great for a vacation home.

Credit for the "Smoke Detection incorporated
in the DS7000" goes to James...his last post
of the procedure was 8/21/05.
