I have Ds7000 security plus system. I have a
very independent 84 year old Father In-Law
living in walk out basement with door & 2
windows. He only sleeps 3 hours at a time so
he is up at 2AM (which would set off motion
detectors) and goes outside to do yard work
as soon as the sun comes up (5AM). So he
needs a way to go out his door without
triggering alarm in rest of house. What is
best way to configure house? a) Have two
DS7000's (1) for his apartment and (1) for
the rest of the house? That seems like the
easiest approach, but then when we all go
away I'd have arm 2 systems. b) Is there a
way to configure a (1) ds7000 system to
handle (2) house units.  I don't fully
understand the house letter process nor do I
understand when to add additional mini
transceivers TM751.  Can I use House "A" for
the main part of the house and House "B" for
the basement when setting up devices? Does
anyone out there have an in-law apartment?

The house and unit codes on the DS7000 are
not really much related to the security
modules. The main unit can act as a
transceiver to turn lights on and off using
a remote (giving you some limited home
automation) and when an alarm is signaled
it will flash the lights that are on
modules set to the same House Code as the
Main Console.

One thing that may work for you is
utilizing the systems different modes of
operations. The system has an Arm Home and
Arm Away aspect.

If you set up a system with motion sensors
and DW sensors then when you Arm Home only
the DW Sensors are activated. When you Arm
Away all of the sensors are activated. I
think understanding this should resolve
your complications.

Ian, I believe I did understand the two
different ARM modes. I think I correctly
understand that one mode only arms the DW
sensors and the other mode arms everything
including motion. I guess restating my
question in a different way is the
following: Can I setup an X10 security
system such that he (Father In-Law) can shut
off (UnARM)his zone (apartment)while leaving
the rest of the house armed.  I just don't
trust him (being stubborn and a bit senile)
to rearm the house when he goes outside at
5AM. Am I still misunderstanding how X10
works?  Is there a link on the web that
presents an example diagram of how
a "typical house" can be designed with each
of the available accessories?  That would
help me alot if I could see an overall
picture.
