Wireless Security Systems
« on: November 20, 2005, 10:09:17 PM »

I have tested 3 wireless security systems
and have returned them all. I am now testing
the RadioShack 49-1000, they say made by X10?
First thing everyone should know is they
claim the system has a range of 100' as with
the other systems I tested. This will never
happen, if your lucky you may get 30', and
at that range the sensors will most likely
lose communications with the console. If you
live in a large house or business the only
way to go is a wired system. I have been
testing the RadioShack 49-1000 ( 1 motion, 3
window/door, 2 remotes) four days now, it
took me 2 days to find a location for the
console so it would not lose communications
with the sensors. The console is within 20
to 25' of all sensors, and inside a closet,
which is great, out-of-site. The system has
been working flawlessly. The biggest trick
to installing a wireless security system is
the console location, and sensors being in
range. The more sensors you add to the
system, chances are some of them will be out-
of-range for the console. If your on the
EDGE of console/sensor range, communications
will come and go, cause you many problems.
The message to everyone, keep your console
and sensors in close range and you will have
lots less problems.

One more thing. The 49-1000 will not
properly trigger a Powerhorn Siren. Both the
SH10A and the PH508 do not work with that
console.

Brian H...FYI: if you place an underscore
before a product name (ex. _X10 _DS7000 or
_PH508 _PowerHorn), then the name won't get
censored from the post.

D. Smith...may I be presumptuous to wite
that Brian meant to say  "One more thing.
The 49-1000 will not properly trigger a
_PowerHorn. Both the _PH508 and the _SH10A
do not work with that console."

Actually without the _ all X10 does is add a
link to their web page selling the item and
in my IE display they turn Blue.
Yes that is what I ment. The 49-1000 will
not trigger the sirens when the alarm goes
off.

Keep in mind wireless system can have
interference from other sources of
electrical noise i.e. use damping system
like surge and noise protector when around
x10 system or the like.

Sorry Brian...In my system (Win 98, IE
6.0.28, plus Norton Internet Security 2004),
the product names are omitted.  I assumed it
was happening to everyone.  You know what
they say about ASSuming.  Once
again...sorry.

Brian H...I just turned off my Norton
Internet Security and "BANG" the product
names were displayed in blue, just as you
stated.  Norton omits the hyperlinks so I
always saw the product names missing from
the sentences.  That's why I put an
underscore in front of the product names.
Well...I can turn off Norton when I am on
this site.  Thanks.

I believe others have also said that words
where omitted. So you are not alone.
