Montion Sensor Turned Self Off When The Light Comes On
« on: November 22, 2005, 06:31:11 PM »

Hello:

I noticed this about the motion sensors:

If I set it to only send the On signal when
the surronding is dark, and someone
triggers the sensor, the light comes on as
it should, but the sensor sees the light
and turns itself off.  The result is once
the light is on, it will not go off because
the sensor is off.

I have dealt with in one location where the
sensor is tucked in a corner where the
light won't reach, but I have other places
where it is not feasible.

How does everyone else deal with the
problem?  Thank you.

What do you have the time-delay for the OFF
command set for? Default is 1 minute.

I have tried it on 1 minunte, 2 minutes and
4 minutes.  I get the same result each time.

Try this.....
Walk into the room to activate the motion
sensor. Then stand directly in front of the
motion sensor. STAY ABSOLUTELY STILL! The
sensor checks for motion every 10 seconds,
and sends an ON command every time it sees
motion. After the time delay is up, you
should see the little red LED on top of the
motion sensor flicker as it sends the OFF
command to turn off the light. If you see
the OFF command being sent, and the light
does not respond, you'll need to find out
why.

Just out of curiosity, why do you have it
set to only sense during darkness? Is this
inside or outside?

I'm just getting into X10 but I'm thinking
that if it is set to only sense during
darkness when the light goes on doesn't
that = not dark so no more sensing takes
place so that = no turn off command? I'm
just guessing but I find that if I put to
much thought into troubleshooting it is
harder than it seems.

Tommy,

The "dark-only" setting is for the ON
commands only. After motion is detected, the
time delay starts. After the timer is up
(and no motion was detected), the motion
detector sends the OFF command, regardless
of light in the room. If motion is detected
again, the motion detector sends another ON
command, and the timer restarts.

X10 Nut - Thanks for that info.!  I'll
remember that when I start to use motions
sensors.
