Ceiling Fan Control
« on: December 15, 2005, 12:51:10 PM »

Any suggestions on the best way to apply X10
remote capabilities to a ceiling fan.  I'm
just starting my system, but I'd hate to
have all kinds of fancy light remote
controls, but have no remote control of the
ceiling fan(s).  X10 FAQ mentions some
references to Levitron, and others.  But,
I'm sure that others have found and
implemented simple applications.

Thanks, RoB

I have used X10Pro inductive dimmer (XPD)to
control ceiling fans (no lights). Works
well, but makes motor buzz slightly. Simple
ON-OFF can be accomplised with the XPS.

I have also used home made versions of the
XPDF and XPFM to control fan lights and
motor ON-OFF respectivly, relieing on pull
chain for speed control.

Good Evening,

Take a look at Emerson, they have several units that will do the job.  I have the Model SW101 (no up light) in the kitchen and it works great.  The system was set up originally with two three way switches and a light only.  I followed the instructions and installed  two switches and a fan (I now have a extra fan module), they worked the first time and have been flawless since.  These units are based on transmitted RF signals and you guessed it you can get a remote control for it as well.  I went to the local light store and I believe I have less then $100 in two switches and wireless remote.

I have X10 on the same circuit and it operates ok most of the time.  I have not opened up the unit so I do not know what is inside.

Good Luck
