Can someone confirm for me the fact that
you really can't turn on modern TVs and
stereos and such, with an appliance module,
because of the way they operate?  When you
apply power to my TV, obviously it doesn't
come on without pressing the "on" button,
so I turn it on myself and then let X10
turn it off late at night.  I don't guess
there is any way around this?  Thanks.

No KK there is no way around this. The
appliance module disconnects power from the
television when it "turns OFF". When the
appliance module "turns ON" and restores
power to the TV it will be in local off
state until turned on at the TV or with the
TV remote.

Think of it like when your home looses
power, what appliances do you have to go
around and manually turn back on, after
power is restored?

Thanks, Dave, I knew that.....  I just
wanted it to be confirmed.  I guess I'll
have to drag my old 13" black and white
back out of storage....lol....  with the on-
off knob.

How about taking an old TV remote opening
it up and hard wiring into the contacts of
the on/off button.  Reassemble the remote
and hook the wires to a X10 Universal
Module.  Mount the remote in an out of the
way area and play away.

I was thinking, isn't there a module that
allows you to record only when motion is
detected? Can you not program one of these
modules to turn on the TV.

SmartHOme used to make a unit that would do
this.  Don't think they still do, but you
might check.  It worked by sending infrared
signals to the tv just like your remote
does.  So the idea of hacking a remote
should work if you can do it.

Why not just get a low cost IR remote from x10, connect the on switch to a relay contact that is on momentarily when powered up.  You can power the relay with a wall power supply and the remote as well is you pick the correct voltages or add a regulator.  If you leave the on button some TV's will cycle.  If yours doesn't then the wall power supply and a relay will do it.  Plug the wall power supply into an appliance module or whatever.

If your TV doesn't have a built-in off timer.... and your a serious X10 user.

You can program a VCR commander to turn the TV off. Instead of the (VCR) start code, use the ON/OFF code (used with most TVs). Then for the stop code use any other code, like a volume up. Use a timer in AHP to automatically turn the TV off.

Or better yet.... use the wasteful energy use of an old fashion TV left ON all night, as a reason to buy a new energy saving LCD.... with an OFF timer.
