appliance module not turning completely off
« on: January 03, 2006, 10:30:02 AM »

I've noticed that when my appliance module
turns off, and I haven't turned the button
on the coffee pot off already, it seems to
still be sending "some" power to the coffee
pot.  In other words, the coffee pot has an
orange light on it when it's on, and after
the appliance module clicks off, the orange
light dims, but doesn't go off all the
way.  The next night, after you have turned
the button on the coffee pot off and then
back on (for the next morning), the light
on the coffee pot is off.  Is this a
malfunction, and is it dangerous?  Thanks
in advance.

KK
Your light is probably a neon light which
can light from the small voltage the
appliance module sends to the appliance the
OFF state in order to sense if the appliance
gets turned ON locally.
This is normal.
One easy work-around is to plug a night
light in module along with coffee maker. The
nightlight will prevent the neon bulb from
seeing enough voltage to ionize and glow.

OK, I don't really care if the light itself
glows a bit.  I've only seen it happen a
couple of times, because I usuually turn it
off myself, before the appliance module
does (unless I oversleep).  I never really
left it on long enough to see if the coffee
pot was actually heating or not.  I just
thought it was a bit strange.  Thanks.

KK I have a coffee pot that acts the same
way.  In my experience this isn't a problem
at all and in fact in no more than 2 minutes
the light will go completely out.  Try
watching it for a few minutes after the
appliance modules shuts off and I bet you
will find the same.

KK; The sensing current would not be enough
to keep the pot too hot.

I guess my coffee pot is too old, because
it's not like that.  I have, by the way,
noticed that the light doesn't always stay
on anyway.  (maybe I just shouldn't
oversleep...)
