PanTilt Pro Software
« on: August 08, 2005, 06:22:19 AM »

Folks,
I've looked all over the X10 site to find a
forum or tech support area for PTP and
couldn't find one.  This seems to be the
default forum for X10 software problems.
I've received great help with AHP; so, I am
hopeful that someone out there can help
with PTP.

Specifically, I can load PTP on my XP Pro
with SP-2 laptop, but when I try to run it
I get:

"Run a DLL as an App has encountered a
problem and needs to close.  We are sorry
for the inconvenience.
AppName: rundll32.exe    AppVer: 4.90.0.3000
ModName: x10net.dll
ModVer: 3.0.0.187    Offset: 00020100.”

Does anyone know what the problem is and
how to fix it?  I've tried everything I
could think of over the last 3 days without
any success.

Thanks.

JohnN: Do you still have the ActiveHome Pro
installer? When you run it, it should ask if
you want to update other X10 programs. Select
yes and it should update PanTilt Pro and fix
the problem. Alternately, you can call tech
support and they'll send you an separate
update installer.

X10Pro thanks for the advice.  Both
approaches worked and got PTP up and
running on the host computer.

I wanted to share my experience with Pan
Tilt Pro to help others.

Using the ActiveHome Pro Installer – You
must go back to the original downloaded
software, not an update.  Basically you are
reinstalling your AHP program, most likely
to an older version.  I installed the older
version to a separate directory, had it
upgrade the PTP drivers and then use the
Add/Remove software to delete it.  Your
working version will still be on your
computer.

Using a separate update installer – Call
tech support and get the updater.  Install
PTP, connect the hardware, keep hardware
connected and then run updater.  This is
clean simple and effective.  I would
recommend this approach and that X10 post
the updater on the site.

You must download remote computer software
from X10's server site.  This software may
also require the updater to work.  Also,
the remote software crashed IE on exit.  I
haven’t resolved this issue, it’s just an
annoyance.

Finally you will need to set up your
firewall to allow the PTP host computer to
access certain ports.  The ports that need
to be opened are: 389, 522, 1503, 1720,
1731, 8080, and 8888.

You will not be able to use the remote PTP
software on any computer within your
firewall-protected zone. Since PTP is built
around Microsoft’s Netmeeting, I got around
this by using Netmeeting with the
firecracker and it’s software to control
the ninja mounts on computer within my
firewall.

Thanks for this. How did you set up firecracker so you could access the pantilt controls within a router set up? I need to do this so i can be sure that the system will work before I go and install it in my friends house... ( may not have a friend for long if this does not work! )
I am using a Dlink router G.
Does anyone know what software you obsoletely need to run pan tilt remotely both at the server end and at the internet connected end? I have had several different answers from X10 techsupport and they are in conflict! X10 need to get better trechsupport and more of it. If they are going to sell this type of equipment and have advertising that promotes over the  internet use it needs to be far more user friendly.

Rondoc,
Sorry it has taken a while to get back to you.  The firecracker software comes with an emulator for the pantilt controller.  Just run that version of the software and set it up for your PTP camera(s).

was wondering if you can see your pan-tilt over the internet?
I have satellite (direcway) into a d-link router (di524) and I have set up all the ports you mentioned to pass thru to the computer that has the pan-tilt pro software-
I can see camera on it- but everytime I try to connect thru internet (thru a dial up lineon another computer)- it just hangs- waiting for connnection-

if you got yours to work- any suggestions?

thanks
