Question for X10Pro
« on: April 20, 2006, 12:00:30 PM »

Considering the file dates for X10Nets.exe (11/12/2001) does it pre-date Active Home Pro? As a user since 2005, When was AHP first introduced? I only got AHP when I updated to WinXP Home, so I don't know.

AHP was released in September of 2004. X10Nets.exe does pre-date ActiveHome Pro; it's part of some shared components we have used in almost all of our software. X10Nets itself doesn't do anything other than allow X10 components to be run as a service.

Thanks, that brings up another question. Did Active Home use x10nets.exe?  I don't remember. The software I used to contol my CP290 on Windows was all non-X10 until my 290 died, when I got AH from my local (Baltimore) X10 dealer.

The original ActiveHome did not use X10Nets. For one, it was written in 1995 & 1996, before we started using any shared components (in fact before we had more than one piece of software). Secondly, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 didn't have services so there wasn't any need for something like it.

Thanks for the history lesson.

As a user who began with X10 in the DOS days, I've always loved the "WOW" that X10 gives, lights that go on and off on a regular shedule seem like magic - if you don't know how it works.
