Wall module and a ceiling fan???

I am trying to use a wall module for a light in a ceiling fan. I have two of the same situation and one works just fine. The problem I am having with the other is that if the light is on, then while turning up or down the speed of the fan with a manual wall dimming switch, the light turns off. What is the deal with this?  ???

Just to make sure I have explained this correctly; the fan is not on an x10 module, but the light attached to the fan is. When the fan is adjusted from its switch light turns off.

The light also turns on intermittently. Could this be because of a wireless network card???

If anyone knows what is happening, please let me know.

Thanks,

Rabbit

Wireless Network Card is usually in the 2.4 GHz RF range and may give wireless camera problems. X10 wall switches and modules do not receive RF signals; except a few of the transceivers like a RR501, TM751 and the receiver in the CM15A. Also the signal is 310 MHz. So the Wireless Network should not be a problem.
It sounds like you may have a wiring error and the power feed for the switch is also being lowered by the fan motors speed control.

Some older dimmer switches were very noisy. I had one, Perhaps this is the problem. ::)
Try a new dimmer switch! and double check the wiring! ;)

OH Yes an old noisy dimmer. Sure sounds like it also could do mischief.  ;D

What type of speed controller are you using for the ceiling fan?  You should never use dimmer switch, but instead should use a controller that is designed specifically for ceiling fans.  Optimally you want to use a 3-speed controller rather than a continuously adjustable one as it won't cause the fan to hum and many fan motors (especially the more expensive ones) don't like solid state circuitry that is in the continuously adjustable controllers.

On a somewhat related note, if you are wanting to control your fan by X10,  Lightolier makes a 3 Speed Fan Controller that is X10 compatible.  Not only does it not make the fan hum, but it also provides the start-up voltage ceiling fans need to start without stressing the motor.  Unfortunately at about $95, it isn't cheep.

You could also modify a x10 switch to control your fan speed Ed Cheung's No hum fan controller  ;) :D

That is true, but at $55 (for the kit) + $10 (S&H) + cost of the Wall Switch it isn't all that much cheaper than the CCWHISPLC.  It is a cool project though.  I have some ideas for making it better that might allow it to fit in the same box as the wall switch.  Probably the biggest problem with this project though is that the fan will turn on with an ALL_LIGHTS_ON command.
