Is There Any Way to Display Swimming Pool Temp in AHP?
« on: November 10, 2006, 07:00:45 PM »

After getting AHP and Smart Macros to work, my lighting is pretty much under control.

Now, I would lilke to monitor temperatures outside, maybe air temp in the bar, water temp in the pool, etc.
I have not seen anything in X10.com to allow me to do this.

Any ideas?

Smarthome made a module called a TempLinc. Basically it send an X10 powerline signal indicating the temperature by an X10 Address with a dim level. I don't know if anyone has gotten it to work with AHP as converting the address and dim level to a temp is not that easy to do. Also it uses one whole house code and the 16 unit codes for one complete set of temperatures.

Aside from the problem using it with AHP, the sensor for the TempLinc 1625  is only rated for indoor use - not even outdoor much less under water.  It's just a small bare circuit board within a plastic enclosure like an RJ11 telephone wall connection box.

My suggestion to Smarthome several years ago that their TempLinc needs an outdoor-rated sensor option has apparently gone unheeded.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Other solutions:  will launch X10 PLC when certain temperature is reached.

Not perfect and kinda expensive, but just fyi's on how some people

http://www.digikey.com

Search for "temperature cutouts"

They have normally open or closed and different temp ranges.  Radio Shack
may carry some also. May also be known as "Thermal Cutouts" or "Thermal
Swiches"

You could then use that with something like this: http://www.x10.com/security/pf284_s.html

I have been looking for about the same thing. I use solar heating for the pool and would like to have the pump turn on during the optimal hours for heating. I have come to the conclusion to use a sensor board and external program for measuring temps of the out side air, pool temp, and solar heater temp. I plan to use a XPR-W to control the pump called by command line from the AHP SDK.
Any more thoughts on the ideal?

not to detract from AHP, but home domination supports multiple temperature sensors. I personally haven't made the leap yet, but have pondered it for exactly the same purpose.

Good point, but unfortunately it doesn't work for some users running the CM15A!
I've test run it and have yet to get HomeDomination to correctly connect to my CM15A in order to Send/Receive, others have no Problem!
Good thing there is a free trial! ;)
