See my last post in Re: STOP Watching Paint Dry / Grass Grow & JOIN TTA's "Community" Chat Today!

Another thought is... if you can't get a newbie to search these boards how do you get them to sign up on Yahoo? (Just thinking out loud)

Oh and by the way I just tried to go into the boards chat room and I still get an error.

X10 doesn't seem to be interested in reopening the chat room, so TTA created a chat room on Yahoo! Chats.

But, has EVERYONE who voiced a POSITIVE post in *THIS* thread JOINED?

How is this CHAT ROOM 'concept' actually working out?

  • Have any NEWBIEs benefited from it yet?
  • How many "Oldtimers " have VOLUNTEERED?
  • Has anyone had a problem getting it to work for them?

*ALL* feedback, both POSITIVE and NEGATIVE, is certainly appreciated. :)
Besides KDRs outloud thought! ;)
newbies have a hard time finding information here when searching (if they do)!
When the chat room is never the same room ( 1 of a possible 3 or 6)a newbie will give up real quick
I tried to create a user room on yahoo as did Puck without success!
If you could point a user to a specific room then it may fly better!
Many oldtimers have One maybe two chat programs on their PC and don't wish to add any more!
I as well didn't wish to add it but thought I'd give it a go till X10 either got this chat room up and running again or deleted it from the site! ;)
Some have had problems getting it to work and manytimes your ID is already in use!
Which brings up another issue for a newbie! ::) ;) :D ;D
TTA a good attempt at an alternative to this but Other than the Cheers Gang I can't see anyone else testing the waters!
I hope I'm wrong! :D ;D

LOL yes the Yahoo Chat is proving usefull! instant answers.
To bad X10 is so slow at getting theirs back up!
I missed sitting in on them this last week(worked nights) everyone was off line when I got home.
Each time I'm in the room I learn something new (think my head is starting to swell) ;) :D The weekend chats should be interesting.

Hey everyone come sit in on a Yahoo chat and see how much you learn! Then if you feel it's worth while  get on Yahoo & x10 for a chat room!
Currently we're on Yahoo in  Computers & Internet in an Electronics Room hopefuly soon we'll have a HomeAutomation room   with users help! ;) ;)

The X10 Chat room would be a better option but Yahoo works for now! ;) :D ;D
So no need to guess if someone is online and free to chat! ;) :D ;D

Note: The little smilly face under a users avatar indicates they have Yahoo when it is yellow they're online

We use an AIM chat on the other forum I moderate. We have a stickied thread linking to it in the General section and then people can post that they are in there and request help.  At the end of everyday the thread get's clean up exeptt for the first post and the last few posts.   I have a shortcut to it on my destkop.  Just create a internet shortcut and paste this into it or copy it into your web browser address bar(only works with IE):

aim:GoChat?RoomName=x10community

For trillian put this:

aim:GoChat?RoomName=x10community&Exchange =4

You can name it whatever you like and it will create a room based on that and then when others click on the link they will join that same chat or they can also be invited in.

Unfortionately I don't have yahoo or I"d probably join you guys in your chat.  I just don't want to sign up and load another chat IM app on my machines.  Please don't take this as me trying to step on anyone's toes, I"m just suggesting an alternative that might be easier for some users, since I know alot of people use AIM.

Actually you can only launch through the aim browser bar, however if you create a desktop shortcut it won't matter what browser you use.

Since neither X10 nor Yahoo felt it was beneficial to have a dedicated Chat room KDR has gone out of his way to create one!
You need Java installed on your PC Most sites require this now anyways!
Since using Yahoo chat I as well as others have helped many X10 users and some non x10ers with setups!
So the concept is good too bad it isn't used more by more! ;) :D ;D
In any case you may now find me  when on line to chat At Home Automation Chat Rooms
as well as Yahoo until "Home Automation Chat Rooms" takes off!
Nice work KDR! ;)

Well all our efforts to get Yahoo to create a Home Automation room has fallen to the wayside. Isn't going to happen.

I have created a web page with a Home Automation Chat room. Feel free to stop over and visit any time. You must have Java installed on your computer to use the chat room. It is a great place to get answers right away or just to chat with other members. You can find us at...

You can find KDR, -Bill- (of wgjohns.com), Dave_X10_L and/or Tuicemen in chat at any given time. Drop in and join us or create your own room if you like. All of us would like to say thanks to those who have stopped in already and we invite you back any time.
