WS467 will turn on but not off
« on: December 22, 2006, 03:58:36 PM »

I've installed several of the WS467 dimmer modules without any issues.

I just added another WS467 to turn on and off a single 300watt spot light bulb above my garage door.

I can turn on the spot remotely no problem, but it will not turn off remotely.

The push button on the WS467 works fine, turning the spot light on and off manually, no problem.

I changed the code twice, reversed the black and blue hook up wires on the WS467, still it won't turn off remotely.

The WS467 resides in a 3 space plastic wall box.
The switch next to the WS467 is a regular 3 way switch that turns another set of spot lights high up on the building.
The switch farthest away from the WS467 is a regular switch that turns on 6 x 4ft double flo lights in my garage.

The WS467 is in a detached garage building.
Both buildings are tied together and share a common power meter.
I am controlling the detached garage from my house, about 75 feet apart.
Other WS467's in the same detached building work fine.

I browsed through some of the other post here but didn't find an answer.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I would suspect the spot light bulb (incandescent ?) is creating enough line noise when on to interfere with the X10 OFF signal. You could possibly have a border line noise source already on the line path between the Transceiver (?) and the WS467, such that the ON spot light puts it over the limit.

The answers to the ?'s will help.  ;)

Just replaced the 150watt spot bulb, (thought it was bigger) with a regular 60watt incad. lamp bulb.

Same thing, turns on but not off.
Pushing the 4687 button manually works fine.

...reversed the black and blue hook up wires on the WS467, still it won't turn off remotely.

I would start by making sure the black wire is now back on the LINE and the blue wire is connected to the LOAD.

I still suspect a borderline noise source or signal sucker.

What are you using to control it remotely?
The 75' to the garage is a fair distance... is the controller on the same circuit?

I am using the active home pro software to turn on and off all my modules.
I have a cm15A controller on a USB cable.

I have two buildings on my property.
A house which is 5 years old.
A new out building which is 1 year old.

I wired 75% of the new out building myself and it is wired way better than any electrician would take the time to do.

The two buildings are on the same circuit/power meter, via a huge #2 underground power cables.
The out building has it's own 100 amp sub panel off of the house's main 200 amp panel.

I have a few of the same dimmers on the remote building and they all work fine.
I can switch on and off modules from my house, to the new building, no problem.

The one module that does not work fine is on the same breaker with a bank of flourescent (sp) shop lights.
6 shop lights - two bulbs each x 4ft long.

The bank of shop lights are not turned on at the time of testing.

I can turn on the module from the house but I cannot turn it off.

I have seen several post here in the forum about being able to turn on but not turn off so I suspect this is a common problem.
I have not seen a post with a solution yet though.

Logic: seems weird to me that you can turn them on but not off. Is the on control signal stronger than the off?
Something is not making sense here.

This is a common problem and noise or degraded signal when the load is on is generally the cause. The signal levels for ON & OFF are the same... this is determined by the CM15A.

Are the two WS467's that are working in your out building on the same circuit (breaker) as the one that's not?

Do you have a plug in controller like the "Mini Controller" that you can take into the out building to test this switch?

If not, maybe plug the CM15A in the out building to verify the switch works (if you have an RF remote).

If it does work, then you do have a signal level problem from your main house to this switch. If it doesn't work then maybe the switch is defective... you can swap it with one of your working ones to see it the problem follows the switch or stays at that location.

The other 467's that are working are on a different breaker circuit.

Don't have another controller, just the cm15A

Miracles of all miracles.
The garage spot light module is now turning off!!!

Nothing has changed overnight.  ???
I just tested it again and it's turning off.  ;D

Aliens?  ::)

EL34: I would suspect that there is something in the house that got turned off, A noise problem. A TV, Video Game box, Power supply to something... any of these could cause a problem. My wife's Laptop when plugged in no mater where will give me problems somewhere. I gave her a plug-in filter and she uses it whenever she uses the AC power adaptor.I have 2 battery chargers for a cordless drill. One is OK and the other causes noise.

Keep an eye on it and if it quits again look for something thats on somewhere.

I have two battery chargers for all of my Ni-Mh rechargables and they are on and charging batteries quite a bit.

I'll do some test after the holidays to see if I can duplicate the problem again.
