PSH01 and AHP
« on: December 26, 2006, 02:26:28 PM »

Greetings,

As far as I can tell the PSHO1 power horns (and the other similar horn models) are not supported in AHP/OnAlert?  Is there a sound (forgive the pun) reason for this?  Seems like I could create some level of security system redundancy (to my DX7000 system) with AHP macros that could trigger the aforementioned.

thanks.

Glad to see ya got the DS7000 working.

Don't know why OnALert would not include a way to sound the power horns.

But a number of ON signals (4 I think) sent to the same house code (and unit code? ) of the power horn's will set them off. And they will continue to sound as long as the on's continue. This is, in fact, is the way the DS7000 sets the power horns  off.

So you COULD add a "dummy"  appliance module to AHP using the the same code(s) as the power horns and have AHP send a CONTINUOUS on signal to that code and it should set them off.

Not sure if AHP and/or the CM15a can send the signals fast enough or long enough. I've set 'em off with a palmpad and a TM 751 (both set to the correct codes).

My tests show that you need 4 On/Off cycles on the Powerhorns address or an All Lights On; All Units Off cycle; on the House Code  the Powerhorn is set to; to trigger it.
I found that up to a 2 second interval between the on and off will still trigger the units. Longer times seem to not trigger them.

I have also found that sometimes you can make a SH10A go nuts if it is sent a string of fast On signals to the address it is set to.

Billaban: don't you mean the SH10A?
There is a post in the On Alert section on how to set this up using a KR15A to trigger it but you could trigger it with any sensor!
KR15A and SH10A Supported?  (Read 98 times)
Since On Alert is a new Plug-in all modules haven't been added to AHP, but if you add them as appliance modules you can make them work! ;) :D ;D

Note: The security plug-in isn't needed to trigger these with a macro unless your using a security sensor to trigger the macro!

Nope.  I have PSH01's.  Got 3 for the price of 1 a, i.e., $40 direct from x10.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I learned the hard way how to trigger these things when I got them so I'm sure the dummy scenario will work.  Just seems weak that it is not part of the OnAlert plugin.  I'll see if I can get a dummy working before my motivation wanes for the evening.

Thanks again.

Ok I see it now it is the PRO version! ::) I wasn't looking in the right place!
Actualy your not using a dummy module!(Dummy\Phantom modules are modules that don't exist, the PSH01's exist)
You'd be setting the PSH01's up in ActiveHome Pro using an appliance module ;) :D ;D
Now you could trigger the macro which sets them off with a dummy module but thats the long way arround it and should only be done as a work arround! ;) :D ;D

Greetings,

I appear to have this all working now but I have couple new related questions:

1.  I have all three PSH01's on the same unit code.  This appears to work fine.  Is this potentially problematic?

2.  Monitoring x10 traffic using the AHP utility or the similar tool (ahcview.exe) in the SDK I don't see the commands I would expect that trigger the various lights and sirens that are on the DX7000 house code.  How can this be?

Just to review:  I have a DX7000 and a CM15a.  I modified the CM15a to use a Radio Shack antenna in the attic for very good RF reception although that doesn't really matter with respect to question 2.  Other than a sensor range problem with a couple MS16a's everything is working fine.

FWIW - w/ respect to the Activity Monitor (AM) in AHP and ahcview.exe.  I have run both simultaneously and found that ahcview tends to catch/display more of the X10 traffic but not all of it.  I have seen a few instances where the AM displayed traffic that ahcview missed.  Seems like debugging x10 PLC would be pretty challenging if can't rely on the monitoring tools.  I presume that if I write my own with the SDK I would see the same sporatic results.

BTW - I do have a passive phase coupler.

Not at all. They are only listeners not talkers;)

I'm not sure what you are expecting to see, but all that you will see is repeated: ALL Lights ON & ALL Units OFF commands for the HouseCode of the Security Base.

The ON/OFF sequences is what I expected to see.  What I see is no command traffic at all.  I can sit in front of my PC watching the monitor apps and trigger the DX7000 using the panic button on the remote.  Every thing that should happen when the DX7000 system is triggered happens, lights, sirens, etc.  But there are no commands captured by the monitor apps.  Hence my confusion.

Any ideas?

Can you control the security lights and make the PowerHorns chime (via sending a dim command) from AHP?

This will at least verify there is a clean electrical connection between these units and the CM15A.

Other than that, are all options selected in the VIEW menu of the AM?

I can control my security lights from AHP.  I don't recall if I have tried to do a macro to trigger the PowerHorns.  I can try that this evening.

Yep.  I'm setup to view everything.  Having said that I'll check it again but I nosed around in the settings when I discovered this behavior to see if there was something wrong.  If I recall correctly the default is view all.

I'm baffled for the moment.

Perhaps a related tidbit.

I'm regularly using the "Find Other Computers" feature in AHP.  Mostly to verify module additions.  On a couple occassions I have seen "hits" on unused house codes.  On more than one occassion this will be a hit on every unit code for said unused house code(s).  At the time I presumed this to be a bug or PL noise.  It is not clear as of yet how this list gets rejuvenated but it clearly does at some point since these supposedly erroneous entries do go away.

I see this too. Don't know what causes it to fill in the unused address with yellow or red now and then.  ???  I just do a Clear History to reset it back to normal.

Aside from picking up the phone is there any way to ping the X10 people about this?  Or would I be wasting my time?
