Having trouble changing Socket Rocket house code
« on: January 31, 2007, 03:50:29 PM »

The directions to do this sound simple enough, but I must be missing something. I'd like to change the LM15A from A1 to A8, so I set the code on the LM465 Lamp Module to A8, plugged the lamp (which has the LM15A in it) into the LM465 module, and within 30 seconds, I hit A8 on my HR12A remote, 3 times, but the lamp never turns on. I removed the LM465 and plugged the lamp directly into the outlet, and A1 still turns on the lamp.

The directions say I can use the MC460 mini controller, MT522/MT10A or RT504/HR12A to set the code. All I have is the HR12A wireless remote

I don't use the SocketRockets, but I don't think you should be plugging the lamp with it into a separate lamp module to program it. By the time the lamp module turns on, the code will be long gone and the SocketRocket will not see it to program itself.

Try plugging the lamp directly into an outlet and program it that way.

What are you using to receive the HR12A signals. A lamp module will not receive any RF remote signals. You need a TM751 or RR501 Transceiver; or a CM15A AHP module. The security console also can receive RF signals if on the same house code. You can also use a tabletop controller to send the signals.

As Puck said do not connect it to any lamp controlled by another module like the lamp module.

So until you have a module that can receive the RF from the remote and then send it back on the powerline the HR12A will not control anything.

If you don't have a MC460, you will have to order one.  Every X10 user should have a couple of MC460s they are very useful.

Sorry, I'm using the CM15A.

According to the directions of the Socket Rocket, it says "Plug the controller into the same outlet as the lamp, Then, within 30 seconds of applying power press the ON button corresponding to the unit code you want the LM15A to respond to, 3 times at about 1 second intervals. On the third press the lamp turns on signifying that the code has been learned"

I'm using the HR12, pressing the A8 button as it says, but the LM15A is still at house code A1

"Plug the controller into the same outlet as the lamp"

In your case that would be the CM15A plugged into the bottom outlet, and the lamp with the SocketRocket plugged into the top outlet. No LM465 required;)

As long as your CM15A is set to Transceive House Code A, it should program the SocketRocket.

The one second spacing is important.  I had to do it about 3 or 4 times in a row until it finally took.  Also, I plugged the lamp into the appliance outlet on the transceiver.

If you are using the CM15A you will need to define a chime module in AHP with the unit and house code of the socket rocket you want to program. Then as others have said plug the socket rocket into the same outlet as the CM15A. Now you can send on commands to the socket rocket with the CM15A. The reason for using a chime module in AHP  is that, unlike the other modules, it does not require an off command between on commands. You need to send three on commands with no off commands in between. :)

signal strength and spacing is very important in programming the socketrocket.

pretty much any outlet besides the one the transceiver (transmit source)  is connected to will not work.

transmit pause transmit pause transmit pause transmit... pause is very important.

transceiver bottom, lamp with socketrocket top,  nothing between lamp and outlet.
or directly into transceiver if it has a outlet passthrough.
