My setup has 10 rooms .............., like Living Room, Master Bedroom, Bathroom and Breakfast Room have two or more modules. Upstairs, Downstairs have 3 or more, each covers an entire floor.  Outside covers any outside lights that are X10 controlled. The Living Room is the biggie....................

I never even considered using rooms.... as actual rooms. My rooms are virtual, based on function as opposed to location. I have a security room, a microphone room, and a theater (which... now that I think about it IS also an actual) room.

I've been using *BOTH* (Actual & Virtual) rooms since my CM11A/AH v1.32 days. I'll give you a some examples (and maybe a few ideas :P too!):

  • My Room: Basement Computer Room - CM15A Design & Development Headquarters
  • Bsmt: Rest of basement
  • BR: ALL Bedrooms
  • Den: 1st Floor Computer Room -  - CM11A/CM17A Design & Development Headquarters
  • DR: Dining Room & Hall, Front Doorbell, Furnace Setback, Roomba Charge Timer, Macro Confirm UM506, Motion Detected Light LM15A
  • GAR: Garage & Attic
  • KIT: Kitchen, Yogurt Maker Timer, Motion Confirm UM506, Night Enable AM & TM751 (for MSxxs only needed at night - "Old Geezers" know which ones these are! :D )
  • LR: Living Room
  • Macros 1: Macros triggered by a PHYSICAL button press
  • Macros 2: Macros triggered by MOTION or LIGHT
  • Misc: One of each available module type that I DON'T OWN, assigned to a Dummy HouseCode, just to see what code AH generates
  • Motion Det: Every Motion Detector and Photocell with its corresponding [TTA TIP] 1Ã,½-Way Status Reporting [Positive LOAD Feedback Loop!] Status Lamp (Dummy LM15A) right next to it for quick-N-easy identiification of WHICH detector the UM506 in the KIT is announcing and 1Ã,½-Way Status Checks (did the light actually go back off?).
  • Outside: ALL Outside
  • Screen Room: 3-Season Screen Room
  • Temp: 16 Dummy Modules on HouseCode H so that stupid AHP will stop asking me if I want to change to HouseCode F (more ACTUAL modules) all the time

POLL: Do you (i.e. EVERYBODY, not just Dave_x10_L ;) ) enjoy reading posts like this (and HOUSECODES: By Room or By Module Type or By Function or...?), giving examples of how OTHERS do different things with X10?

IMHO, I would like to see LOTS MORE of this kind of post.  [It takes MUCH MORE time to create than those 'popular' 2-minute Quickies...]

Comments?

Well... you've got me figured out pretty well. I do like reading about how others use X10! There is a ton of really good ideas out there, none of us could come up with all of them on our own. It would be great to have coffee with a bunch of guys here... and just chat about X10 and HA. But that isn't possible... so the forum is "next best".
