Increasing the range of the MS14A Sensor
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:29:58 AM »

Does anybody know how to increase the range of the MS14A sensors, you have to be practically standing in front of them in order to make them work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You are talking detection range and not an RF signal back to the transceiver?
They detect best if the object is moving across the field. Like left to right. They do not detect as well if you are moving directly to or from them.

Also since the way they work, heat of the surrounding area will affect how well they work (mine never worked well on the second floor in the summer months) . You may have to play with alternate mounting locations to get the best performance! ;)

Brian,
i appreciate your help, I am liking this X10 forum more & more, I already have increased the range of the CM15A to more than a few inches, my MS14A's are located outside and do not seem to sense anybody walking in front of them. i have modified the sensors as per the instructions given on another forum to reduce the amount of tripping, i have subsequently changed one back to the original config. I seem to still have a problem trying to get the sensors to detect anything that moves in front of them at more than a distance of 10ft !!! Anybody got any other suggestions ?

I like the X10 floodlight. It has a motion sensor that (of course turns the floodlights on and) sends X10 line signals as well as the TM751 does. It has great detection range and dependability. Selector switches on the sensor allows me to send up to 4 motion detection house/unit codes and 4 dusk/dawn codes. The unit runs on AC power so no batteries are required.

I am thinking of installing one without any floodlights .... just to use the sensor. The unit can be used as dark motion only.... or as always detecting motion.
