Hi, since I changed the HD my CM15A stoped being recognized, first I did the baterry trick and it worked, but everytime I restart the computer the CM15A is not recognized, so I have to shut down, take off the batteries.....

Any ideas on why is this happening and how to fix it?

I presume you installed AHP on the new hard disk.

To get Windows (any flavor) to recognize the CM15A is easy.

1. Unplug the CM15A from AC power and remove the USB cable from it.
2.  Shut the PC down.
3. Plug the CM15A back into AC Power and plug the USB cable into it.
4. Reboot the PC. As Windows loads, you should hear a "beep" (that means it found a new device) and the rest of the boot process runs.
5. When Windows has loaded, go into the Control Panel, then click on the System icon, then click the hardware tab, then click the Device Manager tab.  Drill down to the USB serial device controllers then look for "X10 USB Active Home(ACPI-Compliant"  That's the CM15A.

Get out of the Control Panel and open AHP, it should see the interface (nothing on the lower left corner. If you see a red X in a circle, it's NOT seeing it.  If that happens, repeat steps 1 to 5.

Dan, I did that and it works, but almost everytime I reboot my pc my CM15A isn't recognized again

If you unplug the USB cable from the CM15A and plug it back in, will the computer recognize it?  (i.e. don't power the computer or anything down or remove any batteries, etc.) ?

I'm beginning to think lingtrin has a serious problem with Windows itself.

When I got a new HP computer with a bare hard drive, I transferred the hard drives from my old P-III system. I had to play the reinstall XP process, since XP has machine-specific  lines in the Registry. Once WindowsXP was up and running (nothing was lost on the hard drive), AHP could not see the CM15A.  Did what I posted in reply to lingtrin and After the reboot, both Windows and AHP saw the CM15A.

Interesting..... is this an XP system... or a 98SE upgraded to XP system? 98SE had a know bug on some motherboards (I've seen three, and owned one of them). It was a failure to see the USB on start-up.

Never had a problem with Active Home/CM11A on Win98SE on my old P-III system until I upgraded to XP Home.   The motherboard under XP gave the serial posts fits, so I upgraded to Active Home Professional/CM15A and it ran fine.

Relating to my post about hard disk swapping under XP, I did have to play the reinstall XP over itself game, then the CM15 game to get WindowsXP to recognize the CM15A, but it did and today AHP and the CM15A are happily working.

Thanks for all your replies, here's what I did, I upgraded my HD to a new HD with more capacity (200+ Gb. old one was 40 Gb), I did a clean install of everything including windows XP SP2, but then I got stuck with this problem, I still have my old HD as a slave, could this cause any trouble? (cause I don't think it would).

Any Ideas?

Did you reformat the old hard drive after changing the jumper to make it the slave (usually drive D:)?  If you didn't and the Old AHP install is still there, that may be the source of the problem.  The Registry gets confused as to which AHP is the "real" one.

Whenever you reformat a drive to make it a slave, you should FDISK it first (XP does not have the Emergency Disk option Win9X had).  I keep an old Win98 Emergency Disk on hand for FDISK and other hard disk tools. FDISK allows you create and delete disk partitions.

No, the Registry should not be confused as he did a clean install of Windows from scratch on the new HD, creating a new Registry.  The registry on the old (now slave) drive will not be accessed by Windows.

No I haven't formated the old HD, what i'll do is disconect it and test it for a few days to see if this helps, will tell you about the outcome

No.   AHP only accepts the CM15A.

You don't state if Windows sees the CM15A!
I had one that stopped responding to AHP but was still seen by windows!
All downloads from AHP to it failed!
I'm not sure if a corrupt AHX file cause the problem but they have been known to do some strange things.
Here is what I did, hope it works for you:

• Unplug the CM15A from the wall and USB
• Remove the batteries
• Reconnect the CM15A
• Open AHP
• Purge delayed macro events
• Clear the interface memory
• Create a new AHX file (keep it simple one module is enough)
• Download timers and macros to the CM15A
• Test new module in AHP

[/color][/b]If this works you can disconnect the CM15A and insert new batteries then reconnect then rebuild your new AHX file to look like your old one!
Do not attempt to use the old AHX file (download to the CM15A)
