As you can see by my email address, I am a private investigator.  I will mount the X-10 Sentinel Camera on the top of my surveillance van.  Then from my surveillance spot, I will be able to Zoom, Till, Pan my way right in to another victory in the court room.  I will let my X-10 TELL THE STORY.  I will go undetected because of the X-10 ability to be controlled remotely on the internet.  The problem with a surveillance van is if the subject (the person you are watching) becomes mobile, it is hard to follow him/her.  Even a short trip to the store without being detected becomes almost impossible.  With the X-10 Sentinel I will be able to sit down the street in another vehicle.  With my laptop I will be able to see everything the subject is doing utilizing the internet.  Thanks for this great product.   My van can be seen at http://www.noseypi.com

In light of the ongoing search for Steve Fossett, I believe that the creation of a state of the art search system is needed. This could be attached to search aircraft to systematically cover a search area with high definition digital recordings which could be scrutinized in real time and/or after landing. Continuous encoding with GPS data would allow instant searches on the ground for possible finds. Testing of cameras using IR and other wavelengths of light under actual search conditions using people taking shelter under what cover those lost might use and aircraft or other debris, would result in a system that would be deployable using more qualified pilots who are simply not capable of safely using the low altitude methods currently used. Such a system would enable  search aircraft to simply follow their designated line in an overall search pattern using overlapping panoramic imaging of camera arrays to record every square foot in as much detail as required to locate anyone, anywhere, under any conditions.

Well at our house we are integrating x10 into the general house controls using Active Home Pro. I have a Philips pronto which I am integrating X10 into for control of functions within our TV room currently. I use X10 to control the lights and fans within the house, so my wife comes home to a comfortable, and lit house.  I have started to use the VA11A USB video adapter as part of a larger video monitoring system which currently includes a Ninja pan and tilt camera platform. There are plans to integrate the security sensors, a wall switch, and two appliance modules to control access to a cat-a-tat that will soon be built. Also I will add a camera for monitoring as well as two motion detectors.  Plans are in place to monitor the crepuscular and nocturnal wildlfe via low light cameras and IR LED lamps I am building. This will be in addition to the current bird feeder video monitor.
If I can add I would love to see a temperature sensor added to the product line up that can relay temperature readings back to the Active Home Pro so I could activate fans etc based on temperature set points.

I use my low light, wide angle, and instant on cameras with ninja pan and tilt, multiview,  webview, and motion sensors  to keep an eye on my grandpa who has Alzheimer's and needs to be watched @ all times so I use my X10 to keep him safe and myself sane while I'm running errands. Or anytime I have to go out. Total life saver!

Each year, I setup a Halloween display to entertain the local trick-or-treat crowd.  While the entire display utilizes X-10, there are 2 props that stand out above the rest.

The first is a coffin popper.  A coffin containing a body sits on the ground with the lid open.  The inside is illuminated in green and filled with fog.   As our unsuspecting visitor trips an X-10 motion sensor, the X-10 universal module closes contacts on a pneumatic cylinder switch.  The pneumatic cylinder engages and causes the body to sit upright at a frightening speed.

The second prop is a functioning electric chair.  This prop utilizes a universal module and 4 appliance modules.  Sitting in a chair is one scary looking guy, he is strapped down.  Next to the chair is a pole with a large knife switch mounted to it.  When a person pulls the switch, the universal module sends a signal to computer software which in turn initiates a sequence of events.  First, all the surrounding lights go out.  A high intensity (750 watt) strobe light starts flashing (turned on using an appliance module).  Next, the second appliance module turn on a drill that is mounted under the seat.  The drill is connected to the body in the chair using a cam.  This results in the body shaking violently.  The 3rd appliance module activates a tape player with the sound of a person screaming.  The 4th appliance module activates a fog machine that shoots fog out of tubes attached to the wrists, ankles and head of the victim in the chair.  After 30 seconds, the entire display stops and the surrounding lights come back on.

Great youtube video Dave! :)

- Brandon

About three or four years ago, I built a home theater. X10 was an affordable solution to a WOW-factor. The IR controller allows me to control my lights when I start and stop the movie. The video senders, allow me to RE-broadcast the movie to TVs upstairs.

I added cameras, so I could see my driveway from my office. More X10 lighting, modules, switches, floodlights... more cameras.

I came to the X10 forum looking for new ideas. Here I found Active Home Pro.... and BVC. I spent some time trying different setups to get my voice to Bill's Voice Commander. I finally found "baby Monitors"... and things haven't been the same since. By-the-way, X10 cameras with microphones can work just as well.

I created an X10 - BVC talking clock using macros in AHP.

I truly have a home that even the "Jetson's" would find "modern". I am one of X10's biggest fans!

I created a NEW X10 video.... you can view it at YouTube.

Some of the X10 products I use:

Lamp Modules (LM465)

SocketRocket (LM15A)

Appliance Modules (AM486)

Remote Chime (SC546A)

Decorator Dimmer Switch (WS12A)

Slimline stick-on Switch (SS13A)

PowerFlash module (PF284)

XCam2 Color Video Camera  (XX11A)

Xcam color (wired) cam

Nightwatch cam

Outdoor Floodlight Motion Detector (PR511)

IR Mini Controller (IR543)

Active Home Pro (CM15A)

Monitor Plus Console - (DC821)

Palmpad remotes

Keyflob remote

and MORE

See my birdhouse Cam in the YouTube movie.

Remote control ceiling fan

I use all parts of the ActiveHome Pro X-10 system except for the home security part (that will come later).  But the best part is the ceiling fan in the bedroom, which has lights also.  I was tired of having to turn on the switch on the wall, then having to go over to the fan and pull the cords to either turn on the fan or the lights.  So, I put in an inline dimmer and appliance controller above the ceiling and stuck a slimline switch on the wall.  Now, without having to rip open the walls and adding another wire, I can control the fan and the lights separately and dim the lights!  Best of all, I can turn on the fan before I come home!  The whole thing cost me about $80, which is a heck of a lot less than buying a new remote control fan!   ;D

Being a single dad, I have to be sure my pre-teen children get home safely off the bus.  I've set up an X10 camera on the front porch to watch the bus driver stop in front of the house.  It is a huge relief to know that I can work a couple of more hours after I witness for myself over the internet that the kids made it home.
I have another X10 camera mounted over the kitchen table.  I call this one my homework cam.  I watch the kids doing homework here and view a piece of the TV in the next room.
I have one big rule a home; "No TV until the homework is done!”  I admit I have enjoyed catching the kids sneaking a peek at the TV and I remotely switch off the power to the TV since it is plugged into an X10 wall receptacle.
Where I could use help from you folks, if I could win the Sentinel Camera I would replace the homework cam.  I could pan and zoom to help with my children’s homework instead of having them wait till I got home.  This would free up more time for us to have some family time around the house before bedtime.  Thank you. Mitchel.

OK, Here's my idea.

     A 256 sensor (ds10a/ms10a) security system using the DS7000.

You have one Master security console.  This console is the "business end" of the system.  It does all the light flashing and phone calling.  You then have additional DS7000 consoles each containing up to 16 sensors each.  I'll call these "Slave Consoles". You can have up to 16 slave consoles each on it's own house code or they can be all the same house code if you wish . On each slave console, there is one UM506 set to continuous. There is also a DS10A that is hooked up to the UM506. This DS10A is NOT installed into the slave console. It IS installed into the Master console. It has no magnetics contacts but it's leads are hooked to the UM506. Since you can have 16 zones on the master and 16 on each slave and you can have up to 16 slaves,  you can have a total of 256 sensors at one time.

The UM506 is set to the house code of the slave console but on a different unit code from the slave console. Both the UM506 and the slave console are plugged into an XPFF filter.  This blocks the all light on/all units off signal from the slave console from going onto the power line.  When a sensor that belongs to the slave console is tripped, the slave console begins it's on/off signal which in turn turns the UM506 off thereby opening it's contact. Opening the contact on the UM506 triggers the DS10A that is hooked to it to send an Open.  Since this DS10A is installed in the Master console and is now reporting that it is open, it trips the Master console, sounds the siren and starts making phone calls.   Because the Slave consoles are plugged into a noise filter, their on/off commands are never sent onto the power line so there are no power line collisions. They really do not take up a house code. The house codes assigned to the slave consoles can be used for other things.

The good part about this setup is you don't need any software to make it work.

     Well that's my entry.

  Please vote for me.

Thanks

I would try X10 motion sensors deriving power from a solar cell operating at night by a rechargalbe battery with the ability to detect sound, humidity, and tempeture for various security and home automation.

I used the motion detectors and camera to find out what was eating my tomatoes.  Turns out that between 3:30am and 4 am, a family of raccoons comes for breakfast.   Because they keep the motion detector firing I used an appliance module to cut the power to the transmitter that the motion detector sends to.  When the motion detector keeps firing, it messes up the cm-15.  This stops the problem and then I have a macro that starts recording video on my computer.  After a preset time, I turn on the appliance module so the motion detector will work again.  This keeps the amount of video to review to a minimum.
I would like to see an infrared camera from x10

I use the x10 in my car like a dash cam, i also use it to catch the little punks doing damage to my car when I'm sleeping.
But what i use it the most for is to surveillance my place of work when I'm not there , to keep an eye on the way the others perform their duties , and that they are up to state and federal laws.

I will streemline the signal over the internet and view it at home or at work. I use my x10 to the fullest.

This product is the best for the price being asked anywhere.

It is really nice to be able to access my x10 from anywhere in the world on my cell phone ( my 8525 pda ) and view whats on KenTv ( my x10 video camera ) such as watching fellow employees at work , or view whats going on at home , and best of all what happens to my car when I'm not there to defend it and be able to identify the person or persons responsible for damages done.

I also use my x10 for watching my brothers kids when they want to play in there room, this way i dont have to ask " what happened ? "

Not only do continuously use it at home to turn lights on and of via timers, and the same thing with my Christmas lights, but I incorporated the cameras at work. I teach a fiber optics course at work. Part of our concept of troubleshooting a fiber optic network, I used the wireless cameras in conjunction with our mock up fiber optic network. So basically, the students see the camera system working, then I break or put a fault in the fiber optic network so then they have to figure out what is wrong in order to bring the circuit back up.
